Good god... those graphs make me want to kick my old MSI GT72 to the curb. That reminded me to look up MSI's upgrade option that they mentioned, and apparently, I have to submit a form by 10/31. Another user posted a note that it isn't going to be a GPU upgrade, but you have to turn in your entire laptop. It makes me wonder if it's better to just sell my GT72 and buy a different laptop (or not at all). The upgrade is nice as I'd also get GSync in addition to the GTX 1070, but it's $700.

News floating around that 1080ti will launch early next year. A pre holiday release would be nice but I don't expect that. Also, this thing will cost over $800. Guessed at $700 base, $800 founders, so basically $800 min price of course. $650 for 980ti which was an epic card VS $800+ for its successor? Screw that. Won't do it. I'd like a single card replacement but I just won't play with these stupid prices.
That kind of money I can justify for other components that last a long time, like monitors or CPUs, but a GPU? These things take a huge crap after 2 years and can't run anything after about 3 years. Might as well use onboard video with a 3 year old GPU. OK that's an exaggeration, but only a slight one.

Yeah your money spent on a nice new display is a better value. But then you'll have all these millions of pixels you'll need to drive and then what? That's why nVidia people are laughing all the way to bank.

If you can handle SLi then 980ti SLI is not a bad option, but I always suspect some people with SLi are always looking for a way out.

If the 1080 Ti is really only 4 SMs less than the Titan XP with all else being the same (except for increased clocks on the 1080 Ti) for $700 I will probably buy one

Wonder why the desktop part is clocked so conservatively compared to the mobile part. Still, this crushes the competitor's inferior parts in the MBP in performance and power efficiency.

$389 for a 1070 is approaching reasonable. $300 would make that card be a pretty exciting option, and anyone who doesn't have one would probably have one pretty damn fast at that price.
Also, regarding the 1080ti's memory. I thought it was said to have regular DDR5. Remember that? I guess it was just a rumor of course. If they used that, people would laugh at them pretty hard. A cut down Titan makes more sense. By the time you can actually get one for $700, Volta will likely be a few months away. I won't even buy one for $700. That's a stupid price. I think a $650 price for a flagship is already perfectly expensive and I won't support prices higher than that unless its a full blown, uncut flagship with nothing disabled, and not even the Titan meets that description. Titan is $1,200 and its cut down anyway.
I hope AMD takes off hard with Mgpu and DX12. We need people buying cheap, powerful options like dual 480's to keep the market healthy. These prices are just absurd.

I would call $389 a steal when the card is faster than last years 675$ gtx980ti.and uses 90watts less power.

Same reason they have mobile GTX1070 with 2048SP and 4xGPC.Because thay can.Nv priority is mobile pc clearly....

The last time I considered a card anything close to a steal was the 8800GT. It was barely over $300 and nearly as fast as the 8800GTX, which was the flagship of the generation. That's an exciting, good card. Buying what is a cut down mid range card that usually cost $200 or less, for $389, is not a steal.
The GTX 570 was also an exciting card due to good price/perf when compared to GTX 580.
Pascal is the most unattractive GPU generation in many years IMO. 1070/1080 aren't considered upgrades from what I got and paying twice the money for Titan for what it offers is a hilarious idea.

Yeah...1070 is nothing special for this price.
8800GT or 5850 all the way...Those cards was steal.i remember buying 5850 and oc it to 1Ghz and it destroyed GTX285 by 40% Rofl and it cost only 259usd.

even if the gtc1070 was a low range card its still a great option considering people paid 700$ for a aftermarket version last year.
and in the latest games the 1070 is pulling away in performance and uses 90watts less heat.

I could tell you the 9700 pro was a great card, but it has nothing to do with the gtx1070.

Yeah i dont care about power usage i have 750w seasonic.Fact is 1070 is slower than 980Ti(both aftermarket)Not by much but 5-10% is there)So dont say 1070 is faster.
1070 is only faster vs throttling stock crap 980TI.

Wrong, when both are overclocked GTX 1070 is still faster while using >100W less power. I'm afraid repeating the opposite ad nauseam across different threads and forums won't change this.

It was already proven that this review is wrong. They still uses crap stock cooler on 980TI(its reference) so even at 100% rpm it still throttles down. You need aftermarket 980Ti with better TDP limit in bios and better cooler to have full 980Ti potencial.

My 980ti's run at 1465 under water and I couldn't possibly give a lesser crap about power consumption. I leave the lights on all the time and don't give a damn. I leave the TV on with movies on pause, and I leave the house and don't even look back and think, "Shoulda turned that off". Its not like I am running furmark 24/7 and counting the pennies I'd save if only those were 1070's in my rig. I have a 1050w PSU. It provides what the cards need. Only people with laptops should care about power consumption. High end GPU's always use about the same power every gen. Only the mid rangers use less.

Very impressive.

I'm also a rebel and leave my electronics turned on

I have been known to use the AC and the heater at the same time, just because I enjoyed the warm and cold are mixing and swirling around me, like nice spring day with a cool breeze. If my GPU's used 400 watts each I wouldn't care, but I'd need a bigger PSU.
