Essentially an overclock edition it sounds like. Beefed up power delivery and probably higher tdp to get higher clocks.

That's not cool at all. They're basically binning the best silicon and making you pay more for it. That's going to reduce the chances of getting a good overclocker on the non "founders edition" cards.

Yeah, I'll wait to see the reviews on the 1070 to confirm TitanX+ performance (might be VR comparison for instance). But if that actually holds up on average, it will probably be my next card unless AMD can pull one out of their hat.

Oh crap. $379 for 1070 for Titan X perf. AMD better unleash P10 at some substantial perf or else they are already blown out of the water.

But Roy Taylor told us that NVIDIA wasn't going to provide good performance at mainstream price points. Did an AMD executive mislead people again ?

Take my money, nVIDIA. I was pulling for AMD, but my 7950 is dying and the 1080 looks very enticing.

Pretty much what we all expected. 1070 looks fairly good.. however a lot remains to be seen. As fast a TitanX? Well we all know Maxwell has been suffering lately in a lot of newer games so I can't wait to see Polaris 10 vs 1070 benches in a few months!

$379 and $599.

Huge gap. There's no chance for 1070 to catch the 1080, gimped GDDR5 bandwidth starved. NV has done their homework and they want people to buy the 1080 if they want that performance.

They've been doing this more and more since Kepler refresh. 770 couldn't catch 780, 980 can't catch 980 TI, 970 can only barely catch 980 sometimes, 960 nowhere close to 970....

On 1070's bandwidth, yes it will probably be starved a little. If the 1070 is 8ghz GDDR 5 then that is 256 gb/s at stock. If it can hit 8.8ghz then that'll be 281 gb/s, a 25% bandwidth increase over stock 980 which is right in line with how much faster the 980 TI is over a 980 to begin with, so it lines up OK with performance gains and expectations.

Expected more for a ~330mm die?

Yep, this is an expensive node. The founders club prices are what I expected. Maybe this is a good way of dealing with the high costs by making founders club cards the only way of getting a card any time soon, kind of like GP100 and DGX.

Too bad they aren't available tomorrow like the GM204 event... Better chance of my 970's resale decreasing as the 1070's release date gets near. Maybe I should sell now and get by with my 460...

He also said AMD was several months ahead of the competition. LOLz. What's all that about AMD always beating Nvidia to new nodes? How times are a'changing.

One thing I noticed that they didn't talk about from the presentation is how well Pascal will deal with DirectX 12.

Either way, I don't think that's going to make much of a difference now that we know what the 1080 and 1070 can do. I highly doubt AMD can pull off any kind of upset to Pascal at this time.

Let's just hope the 1070 will actually have 8 gigs of VRAM, and not 7.5. :whiste:

That was actually Raja Koduri, but it seems like AMD tried their best to stop people from buying NVIDIA GPUs only to get "bulldozed" by Pascal.

Bye...

About the reduced IPC: No progress on IPC doesn't mean no design changes from Maxwell. It's entirely possible that they spent some of their IPC to make it clock faster. The speed demon/brainiac tradeoff is a real thing.

I didn't watch the presentation. I have a 980 Ti watercooled with the clocks in my signature. Is the 1080 worth it for me to upgrade or is it a side grade?
