He also said AMD was several months ahead of the competition. LOLz. What's all that about AMD always beating Nvidia to new nodes? How times are a'changing.

And a huge amount of people said Nvidia was definitely not going to get a 16nm gaming product out this half of 2016. Just goes to show how much b.s. can be found in this industry and community until we have raw data to take a look at.

But Roy Taylor told us that NVIDIA wasn't going to provide good performance at mainstream price points. Did an AMD executive mislead people again ?

Dude Jen just sat up there and said they invented unified shaders, that the 980 was the fastest GPU in the world, that they are all about open platforms and standars, that the 1080 is twice as fast as titanX with NO qualifiers in the line. C'mon man at least be fair...

I didn't watch the presentation. I have a 980 Ti watercooled with the clocks in my signature. Is the 1080 worth it for me to upgrade or is it a side grade?

For someone with that, I would say wait for anything HBM2.

It twice as powerful as a 980 Ti. It 2X Titan X so a little bit more than twice as powerful.

BUT GDDR5X won't be in full production until 2H of this year, which means 3Q for availability! RAWWWR!

Nvidia will wait for Polaris 10 to come out, then they'll bring out GM206 to align their prices up accordingly.

I'm guessing you mean GP106 not GM206.

And if they wait for Polaris 10 to come out before launching GP106, then AMD will at least still be correct in claiming to be first to launch new GPUs for the mainstream (although perhaps not by several months)

'Course launch and 'launch' are two different things. Will you even be able to get your hands on either card any time soon?

$379 isn't mainstream. $149-279 is mainstream. $279 is a reach at that. Jon Peddie Research considers $299 and up to be high-end.

I would be very skeptical of that statement. There's no way Nvidia will sell you a GPU that is 2x more powerful than their last flag ship GPU @ $599. If I were to guess, it has something to do with the VR demo they showed. Something about single pass rendering.

For the GTX 980TI, what was the performance gain per 100mhz overclocked? I just wanted guesstimate how much faster a 2GHZ GTX1080 is compared to a 1500mhz GTX980TI.

Special badge to say you're in the CLUB(tm).

$379 and $599.

Huge gap. There's no chance for 1070 to catch the 1080, gimped GDDR5 bandwidth starved. NV has done their homework and they want people to buy the 1080 if they want that performance.

GTX980 was 550USD and 970 was 329USD
Thats 66% more expensive

1080 599 and 1070 379
thats 58% more expensive

There goes titan X/980ti resale value LOL! Anyone know knows about the 1070 wouldn't pay more than $300 for a titanx or 980ti. I'm keeping them for sure now. I'll wait for big Pascal/vega. They are going to be BEAST.
If I traded up for these new pascal cards, by the time BF5 comes out the big dies won't be far off and I will have regrets for having not waited. Big dies or nothing for me. I'll just consider the money for the 980ti's as being gone and spent. Any resale money is icing on the cake during upgrade time. That's how I have always done it anyway.
So how fast is the 1080 again? TitanX +25%?

Yeah I'm going to wait for review but I can't believe it this month and not at the end of the year!

yea but how do you know its not 7.5 at full speed?

Wasnt the 970 launched with slides saying 4g? but obv discovered later, wasnt

edit:

Also displayport 1.4!!!!

8k @_@

They won't do that, the bandwidth reduction for segmentation purposes already happened in moving from GDDR5x on 1080 to GDDR5 on 1070. Also notice the price increase on 1070 from 970, they don't have to cheap out as much as they did with the 970 which was introduced at a very competitive price point.

What are you talking about, we wont' have another graphic card for another year, or am I missing something?

You'd be surprised what people will pay for old nvidia cards.
