Really is true this time though I think - there's very little reason indeed to get these for 1080p gaming. The 1050/60 (& AMD equivalents) will cover that very nicely, or the last gen stuff for that matter.
I guess you haven't seen GTA-V max out a pair of GTX 970's @ 1080p and still not break 60 FPS everywhere.
Oh yeah and let's not forget Dead Rising 3 that will max out a Titan X @ 1080p and still not break 60 FPS, doesn't support SLI (and never will), and the only way to get it faster is a faster single card.
I'm fairly sure Fallout 4 also still won't work with SLI, and neither will Ark: Survival Evolved.. although we can max out both of these with like a Titan X, or a 980 Ti.. these are expensive cards.
These are just off the top of my head and I'm sure there's a bigger list of non-SLI games that have difficulty with current $300-and-below single video cards. Most notably all the crappy console ports brought to PC with no optimization and the only way to play them well on PC is brute force. Even at 1080p.
If we could get great performance and flat 60 FPS @ 1080p in all these games with say.. a GTX 1070 for 1/4 the price of the Titan X.. yeah it'll be really good for 1080p gamers.
So yes.. PLEASE GODS PLEASE test 1080p benchmarks for the new cards.
