nVidia Raid Error, Please Help!

I recently built a new system (Linked Below), with an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 2x 160GB Seagate 7200 RPM Sata Drives. It was running fine until a couple of days ago, when I had a problem with a CD-Rom driver giving me BSODs (I fixed that). The BSOD would restart my pc, of course, many times. I think this may have caused my raid to do the following:

The error report dialogue box comes up and displays this message, "Raid Service U.S. English Resources has encountered a problem and needs to close..." Under details, the AppName is "nvraidservice.exe", version 1.0.1.0 , ModName and ModVer are the same, and the Offset is 0000c2e7.

Of course, this means that this program can no longer run, and I end it by sending or not sending the error message to microsoft.

Having this program NOT run doesn't seem to harm my computer in anyway, it still works fine, except for a slightly longer windows loggon, which I assume is due to Windows trying to load the file and failing.

I've reinstalled nVidia System Driver 5.03 to see if that helped, and it didn't.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Any Help is much appreciated.

For what it's worth go search on Google and click on the Groups Tab. I've never had an error that I wasn't able to find on Google Groups.

The file may have gotten corrupted. It's part of the nVidia Forceware, and I'm guessing it has to do with raid array monitoring. Not sure. Anyway try reinstalling the 5.10 Forceware, making sure you overwrite and replace existing files.

I've built two systems now with the nForce 3 Ultra chipset, one with a Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 mb and the other an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mb. I have had the exact same problem with nvraidservice encountering an error and shutting down at Windows startup. I am using a RAID 0 array and it seems to work fine without nvraidservice so I'm not sure what this process is doing. You can restart it by selecting start>run and typing nvraidservice since it is a .exe file.

After installing Windows several times and my drivers in different orders I have concluded that the problem occurs only when I install the nForce IDE SW drivers and then install the Creative Audigy 2 ZS drivers. The problem will not occur if you don't select the nForce IDE SW drivers but it troubles me that I have to forego using the nForce drivers which are presumably optimized for this chipset to avoid the problem.

These are only my observations and so far I haven't found a solution. Hopefully a driver update will solve the problem at some point.

Hmmm...i have the same problem. I uninstalled the 5.10 Unified Drivers and chose not to install the IDE SW drivers. I still get this damned error message though ><. Any new updates on this issue? Its bugging the hell outta me. I have emailed MSI and Creative like 100 times each already, and they are juss scratching their heads! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi guys, I was browsing the web for this same error question, found this site with people with the same problem in this thread, then went to my old stomping grounds at amdmb.com and found a possible answer to your problems, as it did fix mine, so I registered here to let you guys know about it, if you haven't found it yet. Here's a link to the post at that forum...

Hope this helps someone as it did me...

I have the same exact problem Creative Audigy 2 ZS with a K8NSNXP-939 mb
I saw this solution from another guy named Rentaigen:

Hello All,

Ok, I have the same MOBO and the same Sound Card. All your posts pointed me in the right direction, but the actual fix is very simple. Run MSCONFIG go to Startup and disable these two and only these two processes: RCMan and SBDrvDET. I figured the combination out by trial and error. After some research I figured out what the processes were and why the are probably causing problems. RCMan is for the Platinum card remote control and SBdrvDet is to detect the Platinum card Front panel controler system. Since you get neither of the features with the Audigy2 ZS just nerf them and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the help all. Hopefully this post will help others as well.

Fellas (and ladies) I registered for this board to say thanks, I have followed MetalMusicmans thread from early days as I have had this same error even after reinstalls. I gave up on anyone helping him (me!) yet came back today for a check.

For your info, I have nforce board with 3200 and yes you guessed an Audigy2.

Anyway, thanks for the help, I will stay around and maybe bore you with some of the knowledge I hace accumulated over my PC building years.

I have also the Nvidia Raid error after booting in Windows XP. My sys :

MSI K8N Neo4 platinum
AMD64 3000+ winchester core
Nvidia 6800 GTO
Audigy2
Nvidia Raid 0 on 2 sata 80 Maxtor drives

It begun when the PC once didnt shut down correctly.

I tried disabling SBDrvDET but that didnt help. I dont have RCMan on my startup in msconfig.

I also downloaded the latest raiddriver from MSI site nv_raid_nv11 and uninstalled the audigy card and its software. I uninstalled Nero. All didnt help still got the problem and I cant start the Raid manager it gives me same error. What the hell is the raid manager for anyways do I need it?

Any helps in solving this stupid error would be appreciated

Whatever you do is at your own risk as would be said in any agreement to use or install these softwares such and such is not responsible for data loss. I take the same approach the following may or may not be the correct response to solve the issues at hand.

How many drives are in your system? From what I have read and uderstand you would need to have 3 drives or more for the safest raid setup. Never install the operating system on a raid drive use the 3rd disk as the operating disk. Have any of you followed that much when you built the raid drives setup?

Why is everyone trying this raid stuff anyways??? Because it is a performance enhancement? Used to be server using raid to mirror or stripe to speed multiple accesses from multiple users.

All I have read about raid is that it just has not been perfected for the home pc as everyone would think. You guys are being the beta testers. I have raid available on my board but I am not going to even try it. My system performs awesome for all the latest games.

Sorry to say guys you may have to reinstall everything to resolve the issue. More than likely your corrupted disks no longer will work as a team. If one drive gets corrupted then they are no longer identical and cannot repair themselves and you cannot see the data to fix it so start over is all I can come up with.

??

I have used raid 0 for years now and never had any problems with it, and its no problem to install a OS on it. If the 1 of the drives would be corrupted, the system wouldnt boot at all and besides that the Raid utility at bios gives u the possibility to repair a corrupted stripe in some cases.

I used the onboard Promise controller on older boards. Raid0 is very fast and good for example video editing or when working with large files. In my experience working with Windows and graphic applications like Photoshop is faster with raid 0. However I think the NVraid driver is not perfect since it gives errors, probably due to conflict with some Windows update or some driver.

[UPDATE]
nvraidservice is for rebuilding raid 1 arrays after a hot-swap - so is not needed when using raid 0...
you dont need nvraidservice running at all with raid 0
