Old Fart: So it is at a lowly 10X7. Answer me this Old Fart: Is it better in terms of image quality to run at low resolution, really high AA, or high resolution, low AA?

Why does everything have to be extremes with you?

What about mid res/mid AA/AF?

Well, it doesn't for me Lonyo. I usually play UT2003, which I played at 11X8, 4x Quality AF, all settings on high. (at least until I sold my 9700Pro last week) That's pretty middle of the road.

I asked Old Fart the question because he probably knows that aliasing is caused by there not being enough pixels to render the scene properly, and that by increasing the resolution, you're decreasing the need for anti-aliasing. (which may somewhat invalidate his argument that "you have to be able to run 6X AA at 10X7!")

There you have it.

Um...the image on the webpage was 10 x 7. That doesn't mean it wasn't resized from the original. Most web graphics are. It is also a jpeg. Its obviously been manipulated from the original screen capture. If the shot was taken from a 10 x 7 game, it would be really PATHETIC if the 5900U got 30 FPS 10 x 7 x max quality! I dont think the 5900U is THAT bad!!

i really doubt they resize a screenshot for image quality compairsons, and ~30fps stareing at a dead map is rather sad.

In a feeble attempt to get slightly back on topic ...

Hasn't anyone noticed that nVidia's response is as close to an admission of guilt as they're probably going to give? Everybody seems to have forgotten nVidia's initial response - this was only a driver bug. Suddenly Futuremark not only finds the "bug" but documents that the "bug" has rather un-buglike behavior like detecting splash screens and Game Tests and taking some rather liberal shortcuts that also have a significant impact on IQ. Worse for nVidia, they probably can't "fix" the bug because this is roughly a year since nVidia has had NV30 silicon and they haven't been able to match ATI's 3DMark03 numbers. It's also now pretty clear that the basis for nVidia's tantrum against Futuremark is that 3DMark03 isn't NV3x friendly and Futuremark wouldn't rewrite to make it nV-friendly. Now they've lost any moral high ground for denouncing/bashing 3DMark03 and Futuremark. And to ice it off, nVidia's superstar Dawn, is cavorting around nude on ATI R3x0 cards. So much for how nobody can compete with CineFX.

It's bad enough this incident seems to be blurring the difference between optimization and cheating; now in nVidia's dictionary "bug" is a synonym for "cheat" and "optimization".
