Alleged specs of the alleged Nvidia Shield Tablet have allegedly leaked and allegedly not made up.

8 inch 1920x1200 display
2.2GHz Tegra K1
2GB RAM
16GB (wifi) or 32GB (LTE) eMMC
micro SD, micro USB
front facing speaker
802.11n
5MP front and rear cameras

Price starts at $300 for the 16GB model at $400 for the 32GB LTE model.
There is also an optional $60 controller and $40 case.

I'm not a big fan of two tone looks, so I wish the speakers an outer bezel was black like the glass, but that's just a minor thing to me.

I think however they should have built a kickstand into the tablet if this is being pushed as a gaming tablet to be used with an external game controller. The optional case will stand it up, but a kickstand would be nice.

Interesting. But if I wanted to game some place other than my office. I would just buy the regular shield for $200 with the built in controller

Meh, give me a 7" tablet with an attachable controller and nvidia may have something I'd buy. If I can't comfortably play it on a bus or an airplane, it's a no go.

Yeah, kinda surprising Nvidia didn't try what Razer did. Razer was on to something, but did it with a 10 inch tablet that is too big and expensive.

Was hoping for a Denver core version of K1 TBH...not sure what to make of this A15 version of the SOC, knowing how many overheating concerns there have been with Exynos 5 and even Tegra 4.

I never liked built-in kickstands, they seem flimsy. The smart cover should be much more stable. It would have been nice if they included it though, rather than making it a seperate accessory.

2GB RAM is a dealbreaker for me. Why are tablets equipped with less RAM than phones?

Because phones need more RAM, the phone processes aren't there taking up space. Also, tablets need to be cheaper than phones, people aren't willing to pay iPad prices for Android tablets for the most part, the price needs to be in the $200-$300 range. That means specs have to be sacrificed.

Shield tablet is not an Android gaming tablet per se, but rather a nice Android tablet with very strong graphics performance (relatively speaking) and with a gaming accessory (wireless controller) as an option for those who want to play Android games or streamed PC games on their big screen TV via "console mode" (where the tablet gets hooked up to the big screen TV via mini HDMI output).

If you want to use the tablet as a gaming tablet, add one of these: http://gamegrip-stgone.com//en/index.php

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Shield tablet includes a [second gen] stylus! The frame with integrated magnesium thermal shield is a nice touch too.

I have been waiting for a Nexus 8 but this tablet seems to offer more than what I was hoping for from an announced (possibly nonexistent) Nexus 8. Micro SD is nice. Mini HDMI. Nice specs. Lots to like about this offering. Has anyone confirmed if it is really 8" even or is it 8.9"? Either way, probably a day 1 purchase for me.

Any forthcoming updates to GRID Beta for non-NVIDIA-supplied GRID systems?

This is honestly a very nice tablet, assuming it has a decent screen this could be a great replacement for the nexus lineup. With the nexus 7 (and 8 being mia) being out quite out of date, this is perfect. Honestly 3gb of ram is not necessary in a tablet, how often is more than 2gb even needed in anything but higher res gaming?

Ill wait for reviews but I might end up getting this.

Agreed. I remember looking forward to Denver cores back during the Tegra 2 era. Sad Nvidia never got there.

Have they announced a shipping date for those or any products with a reasonably certain launch window? Denver seems like one of those things that will either be big or will stink on ice. It's been in development for so long that one would hope it would be good, but some of those long-term projects are an absolute mess.

Looks like the official announcement came this morning.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/7/22/5...fficial-features-specs-release-date-and-price
http://shield.nvidia.com/gaming-tablet/

And it's up for pre-order, shipping July 29th as expected for $300.
http://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-940-817...dp/B00LM6KF7O/

I'm disappointed there appears to be no micro SD slot and it ships with only 16GB of storage and they charge $100 more for the 32GB (with LTE that I don't want). This is a tablet designed for full HD gaming and those games aren't small. Nvidia seems to be shooting itself in the foot by limiting the storage so much.

The stylus cost $20 and I was worried it may not be included with the tablet (Dell after all pulled that stunt on us). However I checked Nvidia's website and it mentions the Stylus is included with the tablet.

In the very link you supplied http://shield.nvidia.com/gaming-tablet/ it says clear as day that there is a MicroSD slot.

Thanks both of you. Definitely not a disappointment. I missed that. Though to my defense, I don't think it was presented clear as day. It was at the bottom of the page and I had to click on a link to show the hidden full specs box. But yes, it's there. It wasn't mentioned on the Amazon or announcement links I looked at either.

Looking at the prices - i dont see any reason to buy the 16GB version.
At least you get LTE for free and 32GB is much better these day thanks to Google's external SDcard nerf.

Nice unboxing and hands on with the Shield Tablet.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about 16GB, even with micro SD. But $100 more for 32GB is something I think can only Apple can pull of now. Though if you want the LTE then that 32GB actually looks like a decent value.

And it's a nice looking tablet and it doesn't appear cheap like the Tegra Note tablets of last year.

I wonder how much space the Half Life, Portal, and Trine games take up on the Shield?
