This is bullsh!t folks.

Somebody has used an unsharp type mask/contrast operation on the water portion of the image IMO, and has been none to careful about it either

Difference image (this was generated inside Paintshop pro 9 using the image arithmetic tool set to "difference"

Enhanced difference image, the difference image above was fed through PSP9's "One step photo fix" to produce this image.

Whoops! we're not too good with our selection mask control are we? You can see plenty of other discrepancies all along the water wall.

Nicely done. I was thinking the pics look less like they'd used different shader precision and more like they'd pissed around with the picture.

edit:

Do you mind if I use the "flame author" option on theinq and direct him to this thread and ask what the fvck he's playing at?

Done. No excuse for this kind of crap. I can accept their rumour stories etc and quite enjoy actually reading the inq but this is just appalling.

Bwahahahahaaaaaa

That's quality. What a berk. Do you reckon they're just trying to stir up "drama" around this new benchmark before it launches or something? Seems a dumbass way of doing it, faking (badly) some screenshots.

Shame there's no contact info or website for these developers other than going through the inq. A bit suss I reckon.

Lol, when I first saw the images I thought someone's been fiddling with the colour settings and turned the sharpening up too much (something you can do from nvidia control panel - a little sharpening often looks really good in games, like you've turned the texture detail up). I love the fact that you can clearly see where they cut out the bit to sharpen accidentally missing out bits of water and getting the odd bit of land.

Tthe sharpening and contrast alteration are happening on the "ATi image", not the "nvidia image" though, as is the weirdness under the person, so if anything, based on the "evidence" presented, you'd have to conclude ATi, not nvidia were the ones with IQ troubles...

Assuming there were even a single shred of credibility to any of this nonsense, which of course there isn't...

I take your flame suit and pull out my thermo-nuclear ray, melt down your suit and burn you to a fine crisp like in mortal kombat, then bansh your ashes to the depts of the ocean so that this kind of Junk does not get posted again.

FYI, when the radon 9700, 9800 were kicking nvidia's arse was because ati nvidia was using 16 or 32 bit rendering, and the default direct-x path went to the 32 bit, where-as ati went 24bit (maybe 16 bit? don't remeber). This was back when that one nvidia vacuum cleaner card came out.

So why would now years later nvidia default to 16bit paths? and why after years of the 6800-7800-7900 series only now someone come out and state this?...

What I don't get is that it's not just one claim that we dislike, it is one claim that is simply not true. Sure, they have a point that people shouldn't be concerned about every little thing, but release information to enthusiasts, not just the average "Joe". I think the Inq. needs to burn in Satan's domain right next EA  It's like "Star" magazine for video card news.

Good job with that email Gstanfor. I think it would be cool if everyone here wrote them telling them how much they suck.

Ah but it turned out as a nice bit of entertainment in the end as the inquirer got completely owned.

You have to hand it to Fraud, he doesn't know when to quit...

inquirer followup

I emailed him in response to the article:
The only thing you or the developers need to release is the supposed benchmark, finished or unfinished (evidently its finished enough for fools to make ridiculous claims based on it).

Trust, there is more than enough talent at anandtech, beyond3d, Aces hardware etc. To discover EXACTLY what is or isn't happening in the benchmark.

Of course, a release of the benchmark won't happen any time soon, because you and the developers both know very well it would completely destroy what few shreds of integrity you have left...

We'll see what (doesn't) eventuate...

Just spotted the reply on there.

Is he really denying that picture was chopped?!?!?!

He might () be right and NV's shaders are using lower precision but those shots are CHOPPED.:laugh:

Oh yeah, and I love the way he misinterpretted this because he didn't see the original akshayt thread:

I do agree with you though in that the Inquirer is just as reliable as a magic 8-ball.

I get all my daily tech news from DailyTech. It's a heck of a lot more reliable than TheInq. Plus, the editor from TheInq just seems like an arsehole.
