yeah, must be the rest of the line. damn ati better get their butt in gear. this is getting ugly.
Why? ATI isn't in trouble, ok? The market is dominated by low-mid end products, not cards like the 7800.

What would really be trippy is if they managed some kind of three-way SLI deal.
The only way they would be able to do that if the third card was using the PCIE X1 slot, since no mobo today has three 16X slots, nor is there any planned for the near future.
What would make more sense is that the 7800GT is released with on shelf availability, along with the announcement of 7800Ultra to arrive with the R520.
Well it is not the fact that there isn't 3 slots. Somone could make that if they so desire. However, the Northbridge simply does not support enough PCI-E lanes. IIRC it supports 25. So you have your x16, and your x8, and your x1.
Time for a new chipset

Maybe they are releasing drives that fix the video overlay problems from the last release.

If the mobo manufacturers have 25 lanes of PCI-E and there's a demand for 3x SLI, then why don't they just do x8-x8-x8-x1? That would be a hell of a lot better than x16-x8-x1.

my guess for the power of three:
7800GTX = 24x430
7800GT = 20x400
7800 = 16x370
if and when the 520 ever arrives then nVidia will pull out:
7800U = 24x490

um, cant remember if it was BFG or the other one now, but there is already a card for sale clocked at 490 core.....lol
so an ultra would have to be over 500 core to be worth thinking about....
im reckoning its more likely to be a 512Mb GTX coming out....so Doom 3 will look absolutely stunning, but still be a boring game...lol

Id say more, but my ass is empty.
whatever the exact clockspeeds, do you agree with my reasoning?Originally posted by: JBT

Both XFX and eVGA have 490 core clocks on some of their GTX's So yeah it will have to be above 490 for an Ultra model.
