At the end of the press deck, Nvidia also gave us a very interesting break down of architectural support. The company has achieved something miraculous. Nvidia has promised a performance boost of 80%-200% with just a software update! We can also see that GameWorks API is broken down into 4 major components. The API itself, low level feature set, True features and Direct3D 12 integration. The new “ultra” low level GameWorks API is supported all the way from the G70 architecture to the upcoming Pascal architecture. The API is even able to almost magically simulate Direct3D 12 on very old architectures such as as the Tesla and G70. We can’t wait to hear more about this at the upcoming demo on GTC 2016 (on 4th April).

We can laugh about it now but this will most likely happen
NV is definitely creating an in house game engine right now as revealed by Tom Peterson of NVidia in PC perspective interview.

Check out the timestamps in the first comment as well, Peterson has interesting things to say about Nvidia "open sourcing gameworks"
basically he says they would most likely end the program before sharing any of the good parts with the public, because it wouldn't benefit them.

Then there's this

Who's ready for the Nvidia OS/Console?

Hooray for more fragmentation in PC gaming!!

I'm speculating they will announce this engine in March 2017

They can if they want to release a Linux console, kinda like a competitor to SteamOS.

They already have a presence in console-ish with the Shield device, would be pretty easy to branch out from there and build a gaming ecosystem for PC/Linux.

I have absolutely no problem with an NV OS/Box it's the API/Engine part that troubles me.

Imagine if tomorrow Epic games bought the rights to the IP of your favorite game series.
AMD owners could basically say goodbye to 1080p ultra (Epic) in those games for anything but the flagship cards.

Thats what worries me about Nvidia gaining it's own platform.

But AMD did exactly same thing with MantleDX12Async.

But AMD did exactly same thing with MantleDX12Async.

except that AMD didnt keep the mantle code it created to itself they released it.
The president of the KHRONOS group is an Nvidia exec, Nvidia is also able to work with Microsoft on DX12

Thats not the way Nvidia operates it's definitelty not the exact same thing.
Also I think you're saying that Async is something AMD is using to hurt Nvidias performance but heres the thing no one would use async on Nvidia cards and hurt their perf if Nvidia would stop lying about supporting it. AMD can emulate conservative Rasterization with a geometry shader but it doesn't lie and claim it supports DX 12.1.

at this point of time they can release their os or api or whatever they want. they dont have enough money to throw at anybody to force a nv engine or os down peoples throats.

there will be certainly 2 or 3 people who will play around with it but thats it.

I truly hope you are right, but their Marketing and Mindshare shouldn't be underestimated.

I have a friend who saw 1080p 60 FPS ultra for the first time and has the PC itch bad now .
I went over to his house the other night and he was actually thinking about buying a steam machine. I almost had a heart attack but it made me realize that in a situation like this Nvidia doesnt have to push these on anyone, PC gaming sells itself. I would assume the api they'd use would be some bastardized form of Vulkan that only works well with their cards,I know at least Epic would be on board.

I have to confess, i thought this was legit. Did not spot the Secret Sauce part, though. Aside of that it looked like usual "Nvidia prepping another proprietary BS" shocker.

WCCFTech's typical posts are so fantastical that their "April Fools" joke seems about a legit as what they post on typical days.
