This misinformation has to stop. ATI's different filtering method for AF is not "cheating" per se (and actually lets you choose trilinear filtering, unlike Nvidia). It is merely a different way to do AF. There is no fixed 'one way' to do AF.

Quake3/Quack is funny because if you actually read about it now (ie new interpretations) what ATI did was an optimization that didn't affect image quality whatsoever. It was blown out of proportion back then, but this is what *both* companies do now for many games. Nvidia *needs* to do this for DX9 games to compensate for their nonstandard DX9 hardware. This is not what the problem is in the graphics industry - it's when image quality is drastically reduced that a problem occurs (ie clipping planes would have a real-life effect in games. Also - see several miscellaneous 50.xx driver versions).

As for the creator of this thread - they are filled with more lies and misinformation than anyone else. Yes, there's a big debate going on between Futuremark and Nvidia's questionable optimizations, however it *could* just be a shader replacement (ie no image quality loss). Also, that garbage about Nvidia having problems, going the way of 3dfx, "Team DX" (which doesn't even exist), blah blah. It's just nonsense and rubbish. Anyone who thinks Nvidia is going in the same direction of 3dfx (ie going out of business) has their heads up their asses. Yes, Nvidia has made some mistakes, however they have more capital, are more diverse and are better managed than 3dfx ever was.

I don't know if Nvidia fanboys are all jumping ship and becoming ATI fanboys now or if they just seem to come out of the woodwork, but it's scary either way.

I was just trying to help people new to pc so they can do more research before purchasing.
I used to own only nvidia cards (mx400 and 4200 ti series)until one day I looked up an article reviewing nvidia's 5900fx ,it shows that the card beats ati 9800 pro in certain games and benchmark.I then on an impulse went out and bought the 5900fx ultra without doing more research .when I got home I was very dissapointed especially with high resolutions and aa and af enabled in games.I then finally did some research and found out that ati's far superior to nvidia when aa and af settings with high resolutions to its max and that nvidia was cheating.
A week later I returned my nvidia 5900fx ultra ,luckily my retailer let me exchange the card for ati's 9800 pro but with a 15% stocking fee.
As soon as I reformat and installed the card I am now so happy and wish I'd bought the 9800 pro much sooner . So I just want people to beware and becarefull for what ever card they choose

I believe they did. It was the standard fare: something derogatory about Team OGL. Boy, those teams sure do hate each other.

Is it true that ATI is easier for a low noise solution, because of less heat generation? This for only me (probably) would be a big selling point. I have an antec sonota case and heat seems to be an issue, if you are looking for quiet. I am happy with my vid card, but friends have been asking my advice.

My BFG 5900nu in 2d mode is quieter than my Vantec Aeroflow's fan (running at 2/3 speed).

A. You don't sell nVidia cards because they would look out of place among the beans, cups, and danishes.
B. The Leadtek 5900 Ultra MyVIVO is now selling for $350 shipped at newegg. This HARDLY makes it 20X overpriced. At all the games that currently exist, except maybe 2, it's as fast as anything you can buy. Seems fair for $350 to me.

So, throw on "Dark Side of The Moon" again, put another microdot on your tongue, and become one with the harmony of coffee, video cards, and the latest issue of the Greenpeace newsletter.
