Why doesn't the story come up now? Link resets to a blank front page. HardOCP has nothing about it. Smells like more ATI-sponsored FUD for their fanchimps to lap up and proclaim, "nVidia sure has dropped the ball."

Are you serious? You really think ATi is going to pay for a website to run a blatantly false story that could be disproved in a couple of hours just to try and slam their competition? I thought this was a tech enthusiast forum, not the wing-nut conspiracy theory forum.

Link doesn't come up. Whatever. It's funny how every little hiccup from nVidia is pounced open while major failings from ATi are forgiven. It's like dealing with Apple maniacs.

Big deal. Don't upgrade to the latest drivers until theres a update.
Every company makes mistakes.

After 3 months of Hell my 5750 finally dosen't crash and flicker when I play flash content. And it finally dosent pause for 30 seconds every 15 min. when playing Crysis. Lets not forget the grey screens of death. Thats right 3 months!
Some people STILL have the problem.

As of now, the only thing we can say conclusively is nVidia is investigating the problem. Unless someone here knows a person (hopefully verifiable) that has been affected by this issue it's just hearsay.

What are you talking about? Nvidia released a driver that is literally ruining some hardware. That's a problem. Nvidia admits this problem. This isn't some AMD sponsored fud.

Like others said, just don't upgrade for now. I'm sure Nvidia will fix this issue and hopefull take care of any people affected. Doesn't seem to be fud seeing as Nvidia is admitting to it.

Almost as bad as downplaying an official driver that kills cards a "little hiccup."

Lose the drama

This is a useful thread to let everyone know that they need to downgrade their drivers if they are on the latest ones.

Are there any cases of it really ruining hardware though?

There are a lot of cases posted in the nVidia forums about ruined hardware.

Personally, I'm not rolling back simply because I've been unaffected for days now, playing games and stress testing. The issue clearly doesn't affect everyone. I'll update to the fixed driver when it comes out, but I see no reason to rush in fear, especially considering people have also apparently had their cards die on previous versions as well.

My ASUS card's fan settings can't be controlled by the nVidia drivers anyways, it's always been that way.

So funny. You're so used to bashing Charlie you failed to notice it's Theo Valich's site. Doh.

PS the site is back up article's still there.

In my opinion it's kind of understandable. They divert all their top driver coders to fermi's main pipeline pushing inexperience to the little things that mean more than you think.

Easy to say now.
What about the people that updated because they would get "up to 30% perf. increases" only to find their cards dead?

BTW, you can't update to the latest drivers (at least from the official site), because Nvidia pulled them off.

Your 5770 problems suck also, at least the card is still alive.

Message from Nvidia:
"196.75 Alert! We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our website."

Cards being killed is not a "little hiccup".

How many cards were killed? I didn't see that link.
What I did see is a famous fanboy with AMD advertisements all over the page trying to make a big deal out of something Nvidia did wrong again.

I didn't see him linking a story about my AMD 5750 drivers sucking big time for 3 months!!
Driver release..hot fix hot fix hot fix.

This Charlie guy is just a plain fanboy fudspreader.
If your not smart enough to see through this......well..... never mind.

His next story will be 5 million cards MIGHT be effected.

Just ridiculous.

There are quite a few reports in the nVidia forums of card failure, and considering only a minority of the total installed user base would update their drivers within a couple days of release, I think the issue might be fairly bad. Most having the issue wouldn't be able to post about it, seeing as they probably have one PC, and that's only among those that adopt the latest driver within the couple of days it's been out.

Even if it's only 1% or less, it's still a pretty bad issue though, considering what's been happening.

I remain personally unaffected, but then my card does use a non-standard fan control that can't be accessed by nVidia's drivers anyways... so I have no idea if this could have affected me if it weren't for that.

I feel sorry for those effected. I'm sure board partners will take the rma's.
On a brighter note, I bet most people will get an upgrade from there discontinued cards.

He's talking about Charlie because he's too busy spinning to realize the article in question came from BSN and not SA.

Why don't you get yourself a green card so you don't have to deal with crappy ATI and we don't have to hear from you over and over without end. Good idea or what...
