It'll be faster than SATA, but you'll be limited in practice to about 800MB/s for both reads and writes. If you think that's fine, then I guess only thing you need to do is to see if its compatible.

M.2 on Z97 uses 2 of your SATA connection, so you will be limited to MAX 1.2GB a second real world, but as Anandtech's own review of this drive shows, this M.2 SSD is on the slow side, since it uses QLC Nand, being bested by some SATA based SSD's. In your case, if you need the storage, and are not planning on upgrading your platform any time soon, this may be a decent decision given the relatively low price tag.

Yes i was surprised at how low prices went for such SSDs these days and that is why I was looking into it but probably withhold purchasing since I am afraid it wont work or not use the full speed.

Even though it won't be able to work at full speed, it still will be faster than a SATA SSD. Plus, you can transfer over into your next PC and have it work at full speed.

219 dollars if you have a nvme port period its a hell of a bargin.

The only reason i am not tempted to get it is becasue 1 nvme ports eat up 2 sata ports on most intel boards.
And at the drive ratio i am at, i rather have 2 x 2TB SSD's slightly slower SSD's vs 1 x 2TB faster SSD.

But if i could sacrfice a PCI-E lane or 2 SATA ports, i would grab that drive in a heart beat.

Are there real world perfomance benefits for modern NVME SSDs vs modern sata SSDs? I'm contemplating an upgrade myself

There are benefits for having your OS on a NVMe drive. However, the benefit varies. Things like installing Windows 10 (and the updates) are much faster, as is moving large files around. Also tasks like virus scans are faster, as is loading large video, music, or picture collections. If a person deals with video or photo editing, that would be another thing that would get a good boost. That said, things like launching a program (or game) can be a small difference (or in some cases there could be a noticeable bump).

Really, it all can vary from program to program. There are a ton of various YouTube videos where people compare various games and programs, so you can likely get a good feel of what to expect.

If you do anything other than basic web browsing, the answer is absolutely yes! the difference just in read/write speeds of an NVME drive can upwards of 6 times higher (550MBps vs. 3200 MBps) if you compare a Samsung 860 SATA SSD to a Samsung 970 Evo NVME. It is more complicated than that of course, but in a nutshell, its very significant, especially if you manipulate any kind of data often.

Anyone have experience with this particular SSD? I was planning on just getting a 2TB SATA SSD for my game drive, but my motherboard does have slots for 2 NVME SSDs. The 2TB 660p is on sale today, and thinking you'd be hard pressed to get a SATA version any cheaper.

I'd go with this Intel drive as it simply can't be beat for the money!

Yeah well. If this coronavirus sh*t isnt fixed soon(seems like it wont be), expect to see prices keep rising on various hardware. The factories are shut down so, as soon as inventory gets depleted, we have a problem.

I already seen some ssds approaching the $150-200 mark when they used to be $100.
