Not only that, but Christmas is the only religious holiday that their central offices are closed for too.

Werepossum was right though. When Christians only get their actual holidays off and mentioned but don't get to name a two week period around them that includes another holiday after their religious observance they are truly persecuted.

Since when it the winter holiday observance a "Christian" only thing? Winter and harvest festivals have been observed by almost every culture and religious group of people since human's kept written records. The symbology involved and the name has changed, but the act of a day of rest in those two time frames has been around for a very long time.

1.) the NYCDOE explicitly calls out Christmas as part of the winter break and no other holiday.
2.) Christmas is literally the only religious holiday that NYCDOE central employees have as a paid day off.

Schools receive funding based on attendance. If A large number of Islamic children are kept home, the school lose money.

It seems like not making these non-school days would be economic waste by the school district.

If the muslim student and teacher population is large enough, they should have those days as holidays. It isn't that hard of a concept to grasp. Jews and Christians have off on certain holidays because they most likely would be out of school anyway if it wasn't a public holiday in the school system. That makes a lot of work to make up for a large population of the school. This is pretty much common sense.

There are plenty of things to go after De Blasio on but I don't think this is one of them.

I see nothing wrong with this. Heck, when I was growing up no one went to school on Jewish holidays, we had "Christmas" break, so its only fair that they get something as well.

I get it, I get it. There are no more Roman lions so some modern American Christians have to figure out *something* to feel persecuted/martyred about no matter how much they have to twist reality to suit their need for martyrdom.
