NYC residents, I need an isp

My sister moved to new york city and needs an internet connection. We tried freewwweb but she couldn't get it to work. She also tried worldspy which didn't work, but that was really strange because the guy who set it up for her had it working at his store. It seems that the server is down(for days) because it just rings forever and says unable to connect. She wanted to go the free route but it doesn't seem to be working out. So can anyone recommend a decently priced isp? Thanks

altavista.com and lycos has free internet that works good in nyc. THey all have multiple dial ups

I signed up w/WorldSpy just in case my ISP went down or what not but that never happened. Prodigy has been great for me and I saved some decent change by paying one year in advance.

although it took 4 months for me to get it in; i still highly recommend them.

Freei works with regular dial-up networking, once you have an access number. It disconnects from time to time, but that's a normal timeout, far as I know.

For DSL, go with http://www.speakeasy.net. Reliable service, and my throughput is as advertized on my line (1.5Mbit/384kbit). They've several service level offerings. I'm in the process of upgrading to "BadAssMofo w/ Fries"(1.1Mbit/1.1Mbit SDSL), that's how much I liked their service.

If by any chance your sister has Time Warner Cable and the building is wired for Road Runner Cable internet service, it's arguably the best way to go. Costs 39 bucks a month (if you use their cable tv service) and it's excellent.

I don't think she'll go with cable or dsl just because its too expensive considering the amount of time she's on the net.

I'm trying to get her hooked up with lycos because of all the different dial up numbers they have in her area. If that doesn't work maybe I'll check out freei or altavista.
