I won a trip and will be in NYC Sunday-Tuesday. Hotel is near times square. Yankees game is Monday night.

What else should I try to see? What is the best way to get around, subway? Any other tips?

What about food? I'm not a fan of crazy expensive places but I'm not afraid to spend a little for a nice meal.

Thanks

best way to get around is subway

south st, guggenheim, moma, the met, central park - those are all nice places to visit

if you just want to wander around on foot, just walk through chelsea, noho, st. marks, and alphabet city. you'll find some nice shops and places to eat along the way

If you eat meat and want some bangin street food, go to "Chicken n Rice" on 56th and 6th. Make sure you go to the cart opposite the Hilton, there are other "wannabes" in the vicinity. You want the one with the yellow bags.

They are zagat rated. Yes, its street cart food and its zagat rated. It is THAT good.

which corner? i usually go to the guy on the NW corner of 52nd and 6th. gyro platter, white rice and white sauce for $5.

for wurst, there is a hallo berlin street cart on 54th and 5th which is also zagat rated i think. there is always a line but it's worth it if you like bratwurst, knockwurst, etc. i recommend the dictatorship or democracy specials.

EDIT: the hallo berlin cart is on the NW corner of 54th and 5th.

Don't take the subways. Besides being raped, robbed, and beaten, you have terrorists to contend with.

There is a Popeye's in Times Square. Not too expensive and they are zagat rated I think.

don't come near me. i smack tourists on sight.

don't bother driving unless you are thinking about a trip beyond manhattan (actually queens brooklyn and bronx you don't need car either)
(another way of saying: GET OFF THE ROAD SO I CAN DRIVE!!! :laugh

subways are your best bet but stations are hot as hell. you can take buses within manhattan if you don't mind the speed. actually you can walk within each district of manhattan since the island (at least the portion with stuff to see) is not really that big

go to south street seaport if you want to see the NYC Waterfall (ends this october)
go bike/jog/rollerblade on the west side highway
central park, madison park and union square probably have free concerts during weekends during the summer
go to jersey city shoreline or brooklyn downtown

i've come to find some nice good restaurants in williamsburg and carroll gardens in brooklyn. accessible via subway, good food, cheaper than manhattan (go find them in zagat or citysearch) i find myself going out to manhattan less and less. it's not worth the trouble (and i hate looking for parking on saturdays)

I always pass by there and always see a lot of pple lining up but never tried this Cart. The place is right next to this weird looking green status.

I should try this week/weekend.

CORRECTION

As "Legendary" pointed out it is on 53RD and 6TH!!!!

Make sure you go to the one directly opposite the Hilton. You will know its the right one because the line starts to form an hour before they open at 7pm...

Its the one that gives you choice of chicken/lamb and their rice is yellowish/orange (not white). You also get your choice of White and Red sauce.. but be caareful the red sauce is extremely hot! Even for someone like me who enjoys habaneros on my pizza.

Another way to tell you got the right one... the takeaway bags are yellow with red writing that says "53rd and 6th"

Or ask a cabbie to take you to "Platters"

Edit: they have a website!
