It's always amusing and ironic when socialists and unions get at each other's throats. This is a good example of why public employees shouldn't be allowed to form unions. It just encourages cronyism and gives too much power to unelected officials. Fire the buggers if they're not doing their jobs. All of them if you have to. That's what Reagan did with the ATC workers.

On the flip side...

I know very little about New York City politics. I do remember hearing on the radio that people were saying that DeBlasio was going to be a problem. Especially on the law and order front. That was back when he was elected. A lot of cops feel that he encouraged anti-police protests which led to the shooting. The man seems to waffle about trying to keep both sides happy. That's not leadership though. If the police are racist, condemn them. If the protesters are violent or inciting violence, condemn them. Man the hell up and lead.

No, the police are doing a fine job of undermining their public support on their own. The people I talk to in NYC who would be more likely to side with them in general think the force is being petty, disrespectful, and arrogant. Decreasing the quality and effectiveness of enforcement is a good way to turn the remainder of the public against them. The union and PBA are sinking themselves into a major hole.

The mayor is not at all above reproach in this situation but the consensus seems to be the cops are vastly overplaying their hand.

Yes, a mayor who has used a forked tongue to score political points by catering to minorities at the expense of the rest of the city.

I think this would be a great time to show the world exactly what NYC acts like once you remove a pretty decent police force that keeps things livable in that disgusting city. People should be reminded that the Broken Window Theory actually worked well in NYC and that it can go back to the shithole it was 30 years ago pretty quickly.

But it's not the place of the police department to tell the public "we don't like this person you elected, so we're not going to do our jobs. They are so misunderstood...nobody loves them. Wonder why that would be?

Perhaps they might have choked out a perp for no apparent good reason?
