O/Cing ECS K7S5A

Hi my system specs are 1600+ XP Athlon and an ECS K7S5A, for some reason the over clocking options (FSB speed and such) is locked the only thing i can change is one speed the cpu frequency which is at its max 133/133 please help i wanna o/c desperately!!

you cannot overclock the ECS K7S5A on the manufacturer BIOS. You will have to flash your BIOS to a third-party BIOS like cheepoBIOS and then overclock.

I did not have much luck even with this though...

You need to flash the motherboard with the overclocking bios. I have not used them in a while, but it used to be that all you could do is adjust the FSB. Do a search on google for ECS K7S5A overclocking bios.

As they've said you need a 3rd party BIOS to OC on that board.

Like everyone else said. Just do a search for el cheapo bios. I have a 1600 as well on a K7S5A. I have it running stable at 1800 for a long time now.

I have had good results with both, but I am using the Cheepo bios on all 4 of the boards now. All overclocked and running fine.

Umm not sure whether i dare flash it been a long time since i did one of those cant meber how to, just wait till i have enuf to get the asus nforce 2 board and be done with it! On the other hand does anyone knoew any software o/c programs (Such as softFSB) but that actually work?

Flashing your bios is pretty straight forward, just follow the instructions included in the bios flashing program. But, if you do not feel comfortable with it then I wouldn't do it. A decent software based program for overclocking is speedfan. Gives you some oc features and monitors your vitals.

If you go to high with speedfan it will either lock up or reboot your system. No harm, it goes back to your default settings.

I use speed fan to monitor system stats neway, i didnt know it was possible to o/c with it?

That board is just not overclockable. You can use the unofficial bios and change the FSB, but you can't raise that by much without taking the risk of screwing up other parts of your system.

Hey if your still looking for a quick way to squeeze some performance outta that K7S5A w/o fooling around with a 3rd party BIOS then check out this little proggie called CPUFSB 2.2.10. I've been using it for about a year (ver 2.2.6) to make my 1600+ XP to run at 1800+ speeds or about 1.5GHz.

Only thing is make sure that your RAM can run on atleast a 147FSB and you'll be all set. I've been thinking about flashing to those cheepo bios for some time now, but although I know the CPU can run even faster I doubt my K7S5A and cheap Kingston ValueRAM will take to it very well?
