Anyone own a pair? besides looking sharp, what else are they so popular for?

why are they so expensive? just because of the name?

Brand recognition, mostly, but they make some pretty good lenses. They are overpriced, but that's part of the appeal, methinks.

Yep got a couple pair, but the $5 dollar ones are just as good.

Mine get scratched very easily, and the lenses aren't cheap..

Well . . . not exactly. Oakleys are good lenses optically. Cheapie, gas-station sunglasses are normally non UV-blocking (sometimes even when they have a UV sticker) and can actually damage your eyes by causing pupil dilation without blocking UV rays.

my contacts are uv protected, most are actually so it doesn't worry me as much if my sunglasses aren't.

I had a pair for a few days (couldn't deal with my contacts...had to go back to my regular glasses and returned the Oakley's).

Pretty nice...but really...any sunglasses will do so long as they are UV protective.

It's just brand recognition.

Oakleys suck ass. I've had two pairs of genuine eye jackets break on me already. I'm on my third and I'm counting 'em days...

i have to disagree on it's all brand name... oakleys compared to foakleys.. the construction makes it feel very very good (talking about the wires mainly.. dunno bout the plastics). No, i don't think it's quite worth the amount they ask for.. but just pointin that out.

I'd still have mine, if it weren't so damned expensive to get polarized Rx on em.. i ended up getting some ray-bans (altho this pair actually cost *more*... but the lens price was enough to justify sellin the a-wires.. and insurance reasons).

I like all that I've had. Zero's light as a feather. Frogskins relatively cheap and look cool. T wire's not so cheap but hey Titanium. Now that I've reached my thirties I think walmart sunglasses are the way to go. Damn it sux getting old.

Oakleys are crap, and they break too easily. Get yourself a pair of Gargoyles. I am still wearing the pair from the day I took a line-drive softball in the eye. The lens did not even get scratched, let alone break.

Oakelys are really cool looking and for the most part, constructed with quality...

However, that is far from their extream high price tags...

I did not know they still made Gargoyles - can you say '80's? I recommend you brush up on your Ah-nold impression if you want to wear these often.

ive already gone through two pairs of oakleys, and they both broke really easily.
i gave up on the expensive ones and bought some $15 sunglasses from REI. they are actually more comfortable that the oaks and look better on me. but, i CAN tell the difference in the lenses, these new ones seem a little too dark.
but, oh well, id rather have two pairs of cheapo sunglasses than another pair of oakleys, cuz i know im eventually going to break em.
