Oakley: What's the big deal?

My 14 yr old son is dying to have a pair. $237! What is so great about Oakleys? Cool factor?

They are very nice glasses, but in his case sounds like mostly cool factor.

Check out Smith or Native for a cheaper alternative...also nice glasses.

Exacte replicas? You mean thye use iridium coating on the lenses? A material that is not native to planet earth.

They look exact...not talking about the materials. EVen if the replica lasted you 1 month, you could buy like 25 of them for the cost of a real pair.

then again my eye jackets are almost 2 years old and my square wires almost 1 year...and they are still in fine condition.

im never gonna pay hundreds of dollars for shades

replicaoutlet.net sells them. but i've bought all mine at flea markets and places like that...for cheaper than what these online ones charge

I have a pair of Oakleys and I don't see the big deal. It's just a status thing for most people. You can't see out of them any better than you can out of a 5.00 set, and they scratch just as easily. They aren't polarized either, so unless they come in a style that isn't copied in a cheaper set, save your money.

Oakleys are fantastic quality and have an unmatched cool factor. My problem with them is that they scratch pretty easily and it's the equivalent of having a fancy car; you want to use them all the time but are always paranoid about something happening to them...

They really do make you see better. You put them on, look at the price tag, and that $237 turns into $23.70, that's why they sell so many.

So how do you convince a 14 year old that spending $237 on shades is not a good idea? I remember when I was 14. I just had to have that Donnay tennis racket that Bjorn Borg endorsed.

dunno, maybe all glasses are like this but my oakleys have little or no distortion, very clear

I'm always giving my sunglasses near death experiences...no way I'm paying $200+ for a pair. Even when they say I can return them for life and have them replaced. That means I have to wait for them to get to wherever they are, and then back. With my $15 sunglasses, I can just go to the store and pick up another pair. Never really subscribed to the brand name hysteria myself...

I like my oakleys. Very clear but prone to scratching. Not to mention they look awesome on me
