Obama Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

"The first African-American to win the White House, Obama was praised by the Norweigan Nobel Committee for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said. "His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

The committee also said Obama has "created a new climate in international politics."

Continuing the war overseas = peace price?

I'm not foaming at the mouth and definitely not right...I have pretty much supported everything he has done besides the bailout and continuing the war overseas. End the war and I would agree with this award.

I'm guessing that the folks at the White House, and Obama himself are probably thinking the same thing.

This truly is a :shocked: and situation.

I could have seen Obama getting the award in the future, but many of his policy initiatives have just gotten started. It's way too soon to tell if this will bring about actual peace.

I can't believe how many negative comments there are on Obama winning the peace prize, but the Nobel committee has decided the climate of hope and reduced tensions is worthy of recognition. But still, an emotion is as valid as a fact, and once again international diplomacy is starting to work again. Some people may think there is no work and effort behind this, but a real pro makes it look effortless. The real work got done behind the scenes, did not make headlines, and that is part of the reasons it succeeds, simply because it did not make headlines with everyone and their brother and law putting their emotional 2 cents in.

And maybe even more galling for some, the quiet diplomacy of Hillary should get some credit also.

The deadline for nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize was Feb. 1st.

He became President on Jan 20th.

He was President for 10 days before his nomination. He accomplished nothing then. And he has barely accomplished anything since then.

I'm sorry, but he did not deserve it. Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai should have received the prize.
