Seriously? The Nobel Peace Prize? I'm by no means an Obama hater, but WTF? Don't you have to actually DO something to get this?

He's not George Bush and his VP isn't Darth Cheney. Sure, the bar is low, but this is a titanic achievement in and of itself and such a HUGE improvement for the rest of the world.

Of course, all of you bouncing around in your parochial right-wing echo chamber would have zero idea how relieved the rest of the entire world is.

This.
Not this.

"He's not Bush" is the dumbest reason ever. It's not like we could have elected him again. Obama wasn't running against Bush... maybe the memory of Bush. So he gets the award for winning an election against a guy who couldn't run anyway? That's a titanic achievement? The world is relieved that W couldn't run for a third term?

*checks batteries in sarcasm meter*

Ahhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... really? Try again.

Every once in awhile a batshit crazy person makes a good point:

"What has Obama done to deserve this prize? The jury put store on his hope for a nuclear arms-free world, forgetting his role in perpetuating his battalions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and his decision to install new military bases in Colombia," Chavez wrote in a column."For the first time, we are witnessing an award with the nominee having done nothing to deserve it: rewarding someone for a wish that is very far from becoming reality."Chavez said giving Obama the Nobel award was like giving a baseball pitcher a prize simply for saying he was going to win 50 games and strike out 500 batters."

Congrats Obama. Way to go dude!

Jee, what a bunch of tards here.... Obama didn't choose this for himself. I can't understand the right winged freaks that get all bent out of shape if something good happens to our president? Where are the cheers? Why so negative and hateful? You people need to get with the program.

What would you have said if Bush had won it? What if McCain had won it?

I think if you read the replies here... and the reaction from other countries... the reaction is 'why this guy?'

There's no negative and hateful reaction here. There's just bewilderment. Why. (Period instead of question mark intentional). What did he do to deserve this? The lack of cheers is due to the wonder of how it happened in the first place.

Imagine a Heisman Trophy winner who never played a down of college football. Here are these worthy candidates who did all these great things... and the winner is... Rudy.

Lol, on NPR (Communist Radio for those of you who are unfamiliar) they're doing a piece, straight up, wherein Ernie Banks is confessing his strong desire for a Nobel Peace Prize, too.

I support his self-nomination!

Excellent synopsis.

What is done is done though, and at this point, we have no choice but to hope that Obama really does use this as a "call to action" and achieves something great in the world of diplomacy.

Everyone's forgetting his successful peaceful mediation of the Henry Louis Gates conflict.

Seriously though. Purely a populist move. The Scandinavians really love Obama. The Nobel Peace Prize Committee believes that Obama's election and initial diplomatic gestures and efforts represent the greatest hope for world peace over the past decade. His failure to change any of the policies of Bush seems to have been ignored. This says to the world that Bush was so universally despised that the mere act of replacing him is worthy of the Peace Prize. That, and keeping Sara Palin from being one aged, cancer-riddled heartbeat away from being commander in chief.

Obama has great potential for doing things worthy of the prize. He should accept the prize as graciously as possible, make a speach about continuing his efforts. And donate the money to charity. Come up with a well-written speech in which he describes how humbled he is by the honor, blah, blah, blah, and while he doesn't feel that he has lived up to it yet, he is proud to accept the award on behalf of the people of the United States in recognition of our collective commitment to pursuing peace. But to decline the award would be perceived as ungracious. It would give the wingnuts trapped in their own partisan, media-blitz echo chamber, and who attack Obama for everything he says and does ammunition. LOOK! ObamaMessiah!!, How arrogent, he declined the Nobel Peace Prize!!. It's a no win situation for him, so him saying he doesn't feel he deserves it, but will "accept it as a call to action" is about the best way he can play it.

The sad part is that some look at this as confirmation that Obama is the greatest president ever. I was in the store yesterday and some women were talking about the award and how they gave it to the right person because of all the good things he has done.

I know you're kidding, but just wanted to point out that NPR's funding is mostly from private sources, they get very little funding via government grants.

"In a fundraising letter, Steele wrote that "the Democrats and their international leftist allies want America made subservient to the agenda of global redistribution and control. And truly patriotic Americans like you and our Republican Party are the only thing standing in their way." -- RNC Chairman Michael Steele

This guy is tone deaf and seriously stupid. The "real america" crap again? Get some new shit dude.

You can't make it any more simple (minded) than that.

You can't make it any more simple (minded) than that.

Um, yeah, except that one "turd" institutionalized and legalized torture, invaded a country that did nothing to his own country, created a rhetorical orthodoxy of "with us or against us" and "axis of evil" which precludes any forward conversation with even moderate muslims, made the US representative to the UN a guy who said the UN shouldn't exist, and generally is looked upon by the world as a psychotic texan cowboy.

And the other turd gave the first US president speech to the muslim world, preaches negotiation and consensus, ended torture as a policy of interrogation, argued against the Iraq war with precient clarity, and has engaged the UN instead of ridiculing it. And he's not Turd A.

So yeah, it's way too early for this award, but these two turds do not look alike.
