BS: Nobel Douche Prize Nominee

I think it may be in Obama's best interest to politely refuse the prize and ask them to wait until he gets done the things he wants to do.
The pics of him in Olso getting a medal around his neck in his first year, then Afghan war escalated and we bomb Iran in year 2 or 3 would be very bad for everyone.

Seriously? The Nobel Peace Prize? I'm by no means an Obama hater, but WTF? Don't you have to actually DO something to get this?

He's not George Bush and his VP isn't Darth Cheney. Sure, the bar is low, but this is a titanic achievement in and of itself and such a HUGE improvement for the rest of the world.

Of course, all of you bouncing around in your parochial right-wing echo chamber would have zero idea how relieved the rest of the entire world is.

Ok so you admit that the bar was low, but claim this to be a huge achievement? Those two statements are contradictory. A titanic achievement is landing on the moon. "Not being GWB" is not exactly in the same class.

I think what Perky is saying is, we all deserve this award - there are literally billions of us who are not GWB, and have never shared a presidential ticket with Dick Cheney. I hear there's a substantial cash award with this prize - when can we pick up our checks?

I guess I've always thought the Nobel prize meant something, even if I didn't always agree with the choice..... this is proof that it clearly doesn't, it's a completely stupid and meaningless award if it can be given to someone who's done nothing yet.

Next up they need to follow Time magazine and next year give it to "You", because all of us can spread a little peace.

All Carter did was to engineer the first treaty wherein an Arab nation recognized Israel's right to exist, and establish a peace between Israel and Egypt that has lasted for more than a generation. Clearly a sham.

Maybe I shouldn?t say ?right-ies?, more so Obama hater?s.

OMG... A black man sits in the Whitehouse AND holds the NPP... OH THE HUMANITY

Congratulations for completely failing to comprehend what most people are saying here, idiot. It's the nomination/selection committee/process that people are ragging on, and for good reason. You're doing a fabulous job of being everything that Limbaugh, et al, parody in a liberal.

Obama simply hasn't done anythig worthy of being nominated, let alone win, the NPP. For crying out loud, even Obama was surprised that he won. If you'd actually bothered to read the posts in this thread, you'd see that even people who like Obama are scratching their heads.

it is to the far left. I fully expect a dog or cat to win the Nobel prize next year.

The good news is SNL and all the other comedy shows will have a field day with this one

Obama may have been nominated just days after taking office, but the final decision by the Nobel committee came much much later.

And if nothing else, this peace prize confers with it a certain gravitas, that will strengthen the Obama negotiating position and make it harder for any world leader to say no.

Still, point taken, others were also deserving of the prize, but perhaps Obama got the nod because his effects are world wide and the deserving efforts of others are more local in nature.

And the larger effects will not be in sour grapes moaning of critics, and instead involve the unknowable future. And just because some of you Nay Sayers did not hear that voice speaking softly or see that big stick bashing, still does not mean some important things happened while you slept on unaware.

If no one else will do it, its time to say congratulations, Barack Obama.

Well he has, at least, opened up dialogue with countries that the previous administration would not even recognise existed. This is a major step toward peace. Sticking your head in the sand does nothing, and sometimes, when you pop your head over the parapet, someone will try to shoot at it.

So keep shooting.

Roger that. It lost any shred of respect when they gave one to Gore.

"The first African-American to win the White House, Obama was praised by the Norweigan Nobel Committee for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said. "His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

The committee also said Obama has "created a new climate in international politics."

Little stumped here....

Continuing the war overseas = peace price?

Anything to piss off the Republicans

Guys...

The deadline for nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize was Feb. 1st.

He became President on Jan 20th.

He was President for 10 days before his nomination. He accomplished nothing then. And he has barely accomplished anything since then.

I'm sorry, but he did not deserve it. Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai should have received the prize.

He did more in 10 days to deserve the Peace prize than your hero in 8 years

More often, the prize is awarded to encourage those who receive it to see the effort through, sometimes at critical moments.

For the first time a sitting American President, elected by a majority of the people, received a great international honor. You would think most Americans would be happy. The world certainly seems to be. It's just a few losers and sour puses who seem to be whining. Seems like there is no pleasing them.

Edit:
Correction: He is not the first sitting American president to win the award. He is the third. Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were the other 2.

I think Carter sucked as a president, but that's a noteworthy achievement towards piece in the world, so that makes sense. Nominating a guy who has done --absolutely nothing-- yet towards world peace is baffling. It just confirms the NPP as worthless crap.

Obama, I'm really happy for you and Ima let you finish and all, but I just wanted to say that the nobel peace prize is the biggest sham of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Signed,
Cynics.

There you go guys

My opinion is that it was awarded to encourage him to keep moving forward with his policies, given the fact that he is receiving harsh criticism at home. He is also at a critical juncture regarding Afghanistan, he is expected to announce whether or not more troops will be sent. This may have been intended to sway that decision.

My thoughts exactly. Honestly he hasn't done much and I'm sure there are others much more deserving of the award. Basically all this amounts to is the Nobel committee wanting to slap GWB in the face one more time.
