Obama & Democrats cave to Republicans yet again

That's all this Presidency has been about with Republicans having the control they have.

The pipeline is permanent, the rest is not.

The pipeline will raise the price of gas in the midwest especially Chicago even more because the oil that was available to the refineries there will now be piped to Houston instead.

I'm pretty sure it will cause the full scale riots the Chicago PD has been training for.

The Senate has approved a two-month extension of a cut to the Social Security payroll tax and agreed to continue jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed.

It's a partial victory for President Barack Obama's year-end jobs agenda.


It also contains a provision demanded by Republicans to pressure Obama into approving construction of a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline that promises thousands of jobs.

It would seem that Obama did not want it based on the resistance.

Now he may change his tune because he can not reject it based on the ground rules.
So approval means he can toot his horn on jobs. But it will not be during the final campaign.

It's not about approving it or rejecting it, he just wanted to put off a politically touchy decision until after the election. This is just everyone playing politics. Basically Obama traded a payroll tax cut for deciding to approve or deny something about a year earlier. Meh.

You know, there was a time when I would havesaid the same as the OP. If we think about it, everyone complains that the two parties only fight each other and never compromise. We all complain the other party is the party of NO.

Yet, when compromise is made, the parties are lambasted for not sticking to their guns!

We cannot have it both ways...either both parties are obstructionist and block everything they do not fully agree with or they compromise.

I have not looked at the latest version but

From earlier this week he had to approve or reject it on the the basis of National interests and provide justification as to why.

He apparently did not want to approve it (political hot potato) and as you stated, put it off until after the elections.

Now he is painted into a corner; it is not just an aye/nay but if a nay; proper justification on why not.

So if it is a political decision to reject - it will be out front from all to see.
the justification will be able to be put under a microscope, Republicans can pound on him and also be used as a anti-job decision.

I don't find it to be a particularly important decision. I also don't see any reason to delay it or a reason to hold up vital economic stimulus for it. It's just election year bullshittery.
