“WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is endorsing the Palestinians’ demand for their future state to be based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war, in a move that will likely infuriate Israel. Israel says the borders of a Palestinian state have to be determined through negotiations.

In a speech outlining U.S. policy in the Middle East and North Africa, Obama on Thursday sided with the Palestinians’ opening position a day ahead of a visit to Washington by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is vehemently opposed to referring to the 1967 borders. Until Thursday, the U.S. position had been that the Palestinian goal of a state based on the 1967 borders, with agreed land swaps, should be reconciled with Israel’s desire for a secure Jewish state through negotiations.”
This is why I wish the Federal government would stay the fuck out of this, because now Israel is going to kill Americans. This meddling in the middle east has destroyed our security, the worst is yet to come, and violated Thomas Jefferson's Founding Principles. It's a massive violation of property rights/self-ownership.

Why can't the U.S. just mind its own damn business? Would hurt us that badly if we let the violence erupt in the Middle East?

I guess the world will end on May 21. Too bad I was a Deist.

ROFL anarchist. No they won't start killing Americans. We've got Israel bought and paid for. They could survive without our aid, but are they willing to give it up? Not easily, and certainly not over this.

It won't happen. Netanyahu will tell Obama to pound sand before something like that would happen. (being that a deal such as this would include give half of Jerusalem away)

With all the unrest in the Mid-east, Israel is one of the more or less 'stable' countries. Why the hell does this administration insist on rocking ALL of the boats at the same time?

Rules for Radicals. You must shake things up and create such chaos that people will flock to your ideas.

According to Alinsky, the organizer — especially a paid organizer from outside — must first overcome suspicion and establish credibility. Next the organizer must begin the task of agitating: rubbing resentments, fanning hostilities, and searching out controversy. This is necessary to get people to participate. An organizer has to attack apathy and disturb the prevailing patterns of complacent community life where people have simply come to accept a situation. Alinsky would say, "The first step in community organization is community disorganization."

The big flaw in the Anarchist420 position is, "Israel says the borders of a Palestinian state have to be determined through negotiations."

And just about everyone in the world knows if Bozo Netanyuhu has his say, Israel will never agree to anything in negotiations, and therefore we will never get to a Palestinian State or any hope of solving mid-east issues.

The other big OP error is that even Israel and the rest of the world have agreed the basis of settlement has to be 1967 borders ever since the Oslo accords twenty years ago. But as the final Netanyuhu stalls move closer to 9/2011, the rest of the world majority is moving toward a Palestinian State. What Obama said today changes little or nothing in road to 9/2011 process.

But cheer up OP, Netanyuhu will soon speak to the US congress, lets see if the mighty Casey strikes out or not as he asks American people to support him or else. Maybe he can make Anachrist happy and kill a few hundred Americans for breakfast.

Who was? (serious question)

Probably Nixon for his support during the Yom Kippur war (and opposition to the Soviet support of Egypt). Or possibly Reagan for supporting their strike against Iraq's nuclear program.

its a valid question with no definitive answer. some favored certain aspects of israel and not others. and vice versa

while nixon did support israel during the yom kippur war, it would be hard for him to say "no" to a country that was attacked on yom kippur, the holiest day of the jewish year, and at the time, was losing the war, preparing nuclear warheads in case they were needed

Obama was never "the most pro Israel president"

No - but he tried to sound like he was during campaign 2008. Obama always gushed about the special relationship & and unbreakable bonds between US and Israel - the standard Obama shtick. I never bought it for a second knowing his background and that Jew hater Khalid Mansour helped get Obama into Harvard ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EcC0QAd0Ug )

Obama confidants Rev Wrigh (black Jews are the real Jews dontcha know?) and Bill Ayers use words like apartheid and genocide to describe Israel/Palestinian situation. It was totally predictable Obama would yank the rug from under Israel once president. Not so predictable was that Obama would be actively supporting the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and other places at about the same time.

Sounds like perfect time to cut spending on aid to Israel, seeing how we are up against the debt ceiling.

Netanyahu is pissed. What the hell was this clown thinking saying they should go back to 1967 borders? Does Obama really side with the terrorists here and effectively wants to give Palestine/Hezbollah the range it needs to reach Jerusalem with their missles?

In a statement released late Thursday, Netanyahu said such a withdrawal would jeopardize Israel's security and leave major West Bank settlements outside Israeli borders.

"Israel appreciates President Obama's commitment to peace," the statement said. "Israel believes that for peace to endure between Israelis and Palestinians, the viability of a Palestinian state cannot come at the expense of the viability of the one and only Jewish state. That is why Prime Minister Netanyahu expects to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of U.S. commitments made to Israel in 2004. ... Among other things, those commitments relate to Israel not having to withdraw to the 1967 lines."

I suggest Spidey go to Haaretz, while they are hailing the Obama speech as a major victory for Israel. As Obama endorse Israeli defense forces inside the West Bank, denounces Hamas, and if anything Obama has really offended mainly the Arabs. Nor does Obama defend any settlement freeze.

Of course, Netanyuhu will cry and moan if he does not get every single one of his desires.

LOL, Bibi expects Obama to tell him he doesn't have to go to 1967 borders just because Bush said so? Bush also said Iraq had WMDs

What's the big deal? Is Israel going to stop buying U.S. weapons? Refuse aid money? Obama pays the bills, so he gets to say whatever the hell he wants.

I didnt believe him either during the elections, but sadly a lot of the jews I know fell for his trap.

I remember on election day, he came out with a statement supporting a split jerusalem capital, something he campaigned against for so long, this announcement was well after the "morning rush" to vote, so most sat angry knowing that they voted for the wrong guy on day 1.

He can say whatever he wants - but nothing will happen. Also US military funding is only 14% of IDF budget.

People really believe this means anything? Obama placates the radical muslims knowing nothing is going to get done anyways because Hamas will never recognize the right of Isreal to exist nor relinquish their goal to wipe it off the face of the earth.

Well the UN is expected to vote a Palestinian state into existence in the fall. Half of Jerusalem will be included and this will make Israel an illegal occupier as far as the nutjobs at the UN go.

Maybe Obama adviser Samantha Power would like to send in a large force like she has said in the past. There are already Euro nations calling for UN intervention (like Libya) in Israel if it blocks the way.

1. give the territories in question back to Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, whether they want them or not.

2. hold Egypt, Syria, and Jordon 100% responsible for maintaining those lands.

3. treat any act of aggression from the territories as an act of war.

LOL. What country voluntarily gives up land conquered /acquired after a war? The Arabs started it, now they'll pay the price. Don't give up even one inch Bibi. Tell our asshole Prez to go fuck himself. What an utterly stupid thing for Obama to say. This guy is not only naive but dangerous too. We elected him to defend our interests, one of which is a stable Democracy in that shithole middle east, not demonstrate to the world what a good global citizen he is.
