The thing I don't get about food tasters is, wouldn't you think that it'd be a fairly simple thing to use a poison that had no strong taste you'd pick up on AND took long enough that you can't practically wait around to see what happens to the taster? Your food would get cold.

I came here to post this. I remember reading the wiki page about rat poison, and it said this exact thing. For rat poison to be effective, it must have no taste. Rats also eat small amounts and wait to see if it makes them sick, so the rat poison needs to be slow enough that the rat believes it to be safe after doing the initial taste and wait.

It's amazing how much science goes into something simple like rat poison. If you wanted to kill someone like the president or that fucking crazy ex girlfriend that won't leave you the hell alone, rat poison would do it. That also means people or pets in your house could get slowly poisoned accidentally, so keep that stuff behind lock and key.

Having Biden as his VP protects his life way more than a food taster.

Chris Rock had a joke about how there will never be a black VP because then every black man in the country would be trying to kill the president

I wondered about this and geosurface's question.

I mean in practice if a president is going to stop at a diner or something even a 30 min notice beforehand would be enough to poison so I guess he never really would eat food like this. But similarly I presume his chef cannot ever go shopping at his favorite market for ingredients lest somebody poison, so maybe all the food brought j to White House is bought in a sense by straw purchasers.

Maybe that's why he ordered dijon mustard a few years ago, that time when republicans raged on him for being too white or something (only white people like dijon mustard). His republican foes poisoned the regular mustard and were upset when it didn't work as expected.
