The thing that upsets me the most about Obamas presidency is that right from day 1 the republican attitude has been to "make him a one term president". Obamas presidency was historic and instead of thinking; let's ride this historic moment and get our name on the pages of history and make this the golden age of government. The republicans instead said, let's sabotage this shit! Had Obama been adversarial from the beginning and had the republicans not been then I would have been more accepting of their "say no to everything" policy. But that's not what happened, he wasn't even given a chance, not even one day.
I'd suspect that the American public largely agrees with me too, it's why Obama has an approval rating in the 40's and congress has an approval rating in the single digits or low teens. It's why more and more people are identifying as independent. Most of that comes at the expense of the republicans who's support has been dwindling.
Has obama been the perfect president? No. Could he have been? I see zero possibilities of that ever coming close to happening so long as he has to deal with this current congress. Obama aimed to please, much to the chagrin of the progressives who thought he represented them, had republicans worked with him in good faith he would have sided with them more times than not.
It's sad really, history will look back at Obamas election as a historic moment that was squandered by the worst congress in history by any measurable standard and it will be punctuated by the obstructionist Republican Party.
