Honestly? I've never been someone who likes trying to read stuff into what people are saying, but I can't help but think that much of the anti-Obama rhetoric sounds a lot like the racially coded language that played a big part in the Republican "southern strategy" a few decades ago. Look at the number of times an anti-Obama posters in this thread has used the phrase "them" to describe black people in a negative context. Without really coming out and saying it, Sinsear has suggested that 90% of black people want free stuff for "doing nothing".

I voted in California in the last Presidential election, which featured, among other things, a ballot item on state funding for stem cell research. Being California, almost every celebrity who got near a mike had an opinion to voice. And watching comments on either side from Brad Pitt (pro stem cell research) to Mel Gibson (anti stem cell research, pro Jew hating), I couldn't help but think that these guys are famous for making movies. Who gives a shit what they think on an issue as complicated as stem cell research?

Ignorance is bliss. He's restrained here. But it'd be interesting to watch him in his habitat. He probably lives between fear and anger. Pathetic.

Hardly.

Whoever you are, from what I've gathered here you come across as someone who is reserved. With an asinine statement like what you posted earlier, you also come across as unintelligent. Put the two together and you have a person that's fearful and angry.

No, that's why they voted for him over Hillary. Obviously they'll vote for him over McCain because blacks almost always vote overwhelmingly Democratic.

Is Clarence Thomas a Democrat running for President against a white person?

Edit - To be clear, I'm not saying that Obama being black is the ONLY reason that he got such a large percentage of the black vote, but it was certainly one of the biggest reasons.

If you think obama would still be getting 90%+ of the black vote if he were white....

Isnt the norm around 70% blacks for the dem candidate?

Even if your "norm" was true of all white Democrats (which it isn't), at best you're arguing that 20% of black people are voting for Obama because he's black. That hardly seems like something worth the epic panty bunching going on about it.

How many millions of votes is 20% of eligible black voters? Hardly seems worth it? please...

Bill Clinton got 90% of the black vote. These numbers aren't that remarkable.

Text

Bill Clinton got 83% of blacks in 92, and 84% of blacks in 96. Granted 7-8% may not seem like much, but thats enough to carry a couple swing states.

Text

Obama at 90% of black vote, and McCain at 3%. Its hard to argue that a fair chunk (5% or so) isnt soley because Obama is black, lets be real.

It's okay, we have white people who believe in lynching gays telling us that it's "McCain or die" because of all the boogeymen out there that Obama apparently can't take care of... So it all evens out.

Assholes on one side, assholes on the other, and not a head up one of them.

You probably failed to see the polls when Hillary lead the polls amongst blacks in all of 2007. At the time, blacks did not know anything about Obama and didn't want to waste their vote. The more they got to know him, the more they liked. Remember, Hillary had that populist black message that someone like Jesse Jackson advocated. But blacks just got tired of hearing it and wanted some tough love.

That's why I clarified my position, and said that I don't think that its the only reason that they voted for him. I think that once they realized that he actually had a chance, they flocked to him. After having thought about it for several months now, I really don't blame them. If I was black I'd probably do the same thing.

Is it a double standard? Of course it is, but I don't really have a problem with it considering what blacks have been through since this country was founded. But at least be honest about it, Obama being black was a major factor in the primaries.

Yes it does help. Just like race helped Hillary amongst "Reagan Democrats." But I'm just glad he doesn't advocate the entitlement or panderings that people like Jesse Jackson advocate. If he's elected and competent and not corrupt, it'll go a long way in how African-Americans see themselves.

Well I'll say it.
It's the "black" part of Obama they like. They have a belief that Obama is acting white, so that white people will vote for him and when he gets in the white house he'll return to his "roots". It's not that black people all agree in what Obama says, it's that a lot of them think of him as their only way to "beat" the white man. I hear people talking like this all day here at work. They couldn't tell you 2 things Obama stands for, though lately, I doubt anyone could since he seems to be flip-flopping more and more.

I'm glad someone on this board has a degree in social studies and has researched a particular race to know exactly what all of them are thinking. For a few seconds here I thought we were all ignorant uneducated fools, I'm glad someone knows how people think though.

Look at how much black people love Tiger Woods, and he's even less black than Oblahma. It's about claiming things by association because it's the in thing.

I love Tiger, could say the same about most of my friends. None of us are black. Could be that the guy just has a lot of appeal.

And a lot of white people like Obama. You really didn't get his analogy? x10

Not saying that I agree with it though.

Yeah, I don't get that one. I'm white, supported Obama over Hillary, of course voting Obama over McCain, and a huge Tiger Woods fan. Why am I supporting Obama? Because I think he is the best of the candidates. Why am I a Woods fan? Because I enjoy watching him do things no other player has ever done.

Why is it white people get to personify all the good qualities that minorities have to assimilate to "beat" them? Can an Asian, Middle Easterner or black man get a law degree, become president of the Harvard Law Review and make a run at the White House without "acting white"? Someone needs to update the minority handbook with these new rule changes.
