Ok, I totally understand the fact that Obama needs to get out of the White House, as does Misses O. In fact I could understand if he went out 2 or 3 times a week. The amount of pressure on him has to be insane.

But flying off to New York City for date night is absurd!!!!
This dinner date most likely cost us tax payers in excess of $250,000!!!

And this isn't the first time Obama has done something like this.

Back in Feb he took the misses to Chicago for a Valentines dinner. At least that time he spent the whole weekend on Chicago, but that weekend get away still cost the public at least $250,000 most likely more.

But wait!! There is more!!!

In early March Obama flew in a pizza chef from St. Louis to make pizza for a White House function.

Someone should remind him that we are in a recession.

When the execs from the big 3 flew into DC the media and congress went nuts over their use of private jets, but Obama flying off for one night gets almost no coverage... what the hell?!?!?!

Oh... I should point out that Obama paid for dinner and the theater tickets. We just paid for the security, and planes and helicopters and limos etc etc etc.

From Wiki

Obsessive?compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by involuntary intrusive thoughts. When a sufferer begins to acknowledge these intrusive thoughts, the sufferer then develops anxiety based on the dread that something bad will happen. The sufferer feels compelled to voluntarily perform irrational, time-consuming physical behaviors to diminish the anxiety.

Sufferers often try to keep their compulsive behaviors hidden from others, often to avoid embarrassment, humiliation or to avoid being seen as strikingly odd or different from others. If the condition is not realized by an undiagnosed sufferer, they may scold themselves in frustration as to why they are thinking or acting the way they are. Although the acts of those who have OCD may appear paranoid and come across to others as psychotic, an OCD sufferer is able to recognize their thoughts and subsequent actions as irrational, which is what makes the illness so distressing. The psychological self-awareness of the irrationality of the disorder may be painful; a sufferer may be plagued by doubt and uncertainty regarding their own feelings and behaviors. A principal challenge faced by OCD sufferers is learning to manage their own behaviors without constant reassurance from others.

STFU please. He's the President. You telling me he isn't allowed to take his wife out? And if he wanted to, do you think the Secret Service would let him take a commercial jet?

Good thing the last president never left the confines of the White House or someone may have called right-wingers hypocritical on this subject.

Washington DC has some fantastic places to eat, if he really went to NYC JUST for dinner (and not some kind of social function), it's a bit of a waste.
And did he really fly from DC to NYC? It's not that far away.

Obama's Date Night in New York

ABC News' Vija Udenans Reports: Today Pres. Obama and the First Lady are taking their 'date night' to New York, dinner and a Broadway show. Mid-afternoon the President, tie-less in a stunning black suit escorted the first lady to Marine One on South Lawn, while Sasha, the youngest daughter watched and waved from the upper balcony.

Michelle Obama wore a sleeveless, body-fitting, knee length, black cocktail dress and black heels that almost stuck in the South lawn sod. The President took her hand as they continued to the waiting chopper.

A White House press spokesperson tells us the President had explained the visit, "I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished."

The couple did not take the large 747 to New York, but flew a much smaller C-20 (G3). The press pool flew in a separate plane, identified by the military as a G5, followed by a staff in a third plane (G3). White House staff said the smaller planes were more fuel efficient.

AF-1 landed at Kennedy Airport. Marine One flew them over the Brooklyn Bridge to Lower Manhattan.

The motorcade made its way over to West Street, banged a right on a cobblestone Clarkson, then on to Carmine. They ended up at 6th and Washington place.

The first couple dined at Bluehill Restaurant where reservations are reportedly hard to get. The restaurant features "locally grown fare" and
has it's own farm in upstate new York.

The first couple arrived at the Belasco theater on West 44th Street, where they will see "Joe Turner's Come and Gone."

Earlier in the day, both parents attended eldest daughter, Malia's soccer match. Spectators informed the press pool that Malia's team, "the tsunamis" did win.

They are expected to return to the White House tonight.

So he promised his Wife a Broadway show for putting up with all the hectic wear and tear of a campain......

Sounds like a healthy Marriage they they can find time to go out. Its refreshing to see a President and First lady that actually spend time together.

Yeah Pro-Jo, it's not like the country pays for the president when he goes on vacation... like every other president in history. How much do you think the taxpayers spent ferrying GWB to and fro from his ranch in Texas? Considering he was the most vacationed president in history... I'm guessing quite a bit. I'm going to go do some forum searches for your posts trashing him for wasting the taxpayers' money... I'm sure it's there. Can you give me some ideas on keywords to use to find them?

As for the actual story about the pizza, from someone who actually called the pizza restaurant's manager:
The best one is the first: Ace of Spades slammed Obama?s environmental cred for ?jetting in? Pi?s chef, making it seem as though the guy was hopping a private gulfstream, or worse, partying down on Air Force One . In fact, Chris Sommers flew commercial. Not only that, he flew coach. Not only that, he had already planned a business trip to DC, so the restaurant paid for his travel! Finally, Barack Obama isn?t saddling the American taxpayer with the tab for this feast. He?s picking up the tab, for local ingredients, out of his own pocket.

Damn you Obama for paying for pizza yourself from a guy who paid for his own travel to Washington!

Someone should remind you to think before posting sometimes.

the media coverage of this was insanely ridiculous and only served to emphasize the collective hard on they've had for Obama for the past year+.

but other than that, I can't really say that I care.

Half a million dollars or tax payers money so Obama can take the misses out for dates.

You don't think this is excessive?

DC has some of the nicest restaurants in the country, why not take her to one of those places and save the tax payers a TON of money.

DC has some nice hotels... why did Bush have to fly back to TEXAS to his own ranch every other month..

because he wanted to.

Bush took 77 trips to Texas Ranch, Texas is a long way from D.C. I smell hypocrisy from the republicans. President?s need to relax and recharge. Whether its Bush playing golf Obama playing basketball. Bush going to texas Obama going to NYC, let them enjoy themselves for a moment.

Could he have ordered the secret service and all those that followed, not to follow? He could have driven himself too, right?

What kind of hooplah would we have now if he did?

Hey... if Obama wants to fly to Chicago or Hawaii for a few weeks vacation I am all for it.

But flying to NYC and back in the same night!!! Are you kidding me!!!!

Here is what Obama said today speaking about the GM bankruptcy
But I want you to know that what you're doing is making a sacrifice for the next generation, a sacrifice you may not have chose to make, but a sacrifice you are nevertheless called to make
Maybe he should have called on Michelle to sacrifice her trip to broadway. Or at least told her to wait till they are in NYC is some kind of official capacity.

If you guys like funding Broadway dinners so much, send me a check for 500,000. I'll gladly take the money off your hands.
