Wouldn't Obama be the black Bill Clinton?

I understand what they're trying to say, but I agree it's an idiotic question. I think Obama is half white anyway.

Not only is he half white, his dad is an African immigrant. He's not a "true" black-American.

I don't necessarily agree. My parents both immigrated from Nigeria. Even though my ancestry is 100% from that country, nobody can tell that by looking at or listening to me. So, outside of my home, I lived the same types of experiences as any other Black American.

While you obviously know what experiences you had more than me I would still venture to ask this question:
Were you raised by parents who grew up in a white dominated society and who were raised themselves by parents in a white dominated society? Is it possible that black Americans raised by parents who lived in country that was racist have experienced different teachings from their parents which has shaped their outlook on race and America?

All of my black friends and coworkers don't consider African immigrants as the same as them. I read somewhere else that this was a consensus among blacks nationwide.

I never really asked them why they feel that way.

There are poor white people in the south too. Hell look at Blues Brothers. I mean really, this is racism at its worst... when people think it's not.

Absolutely not, it's an entirely racist observation.

Did you research who Toni Morrison is? That might be a good start. Might as well start calling Maya Angelou a racist while we're at it.

It does not matter who said it, what matters is what was said. It was racist, plain and simple. Skin color should never be used like this, it's racist.

Agreed - there's just as many black racists today as there are white ones. Giving someone a pass to say something like this just because they are black is promoting racism, not condoning it.

You're too ignorant to even know who Toni Morrison is. I'm guessing you're WAY too ignorant to know any of her works. Did you read the article from the New Yorker?
Do you understand why she said it and in what context? Can you do anything BUT give us the standard knee jerk reaction?

Race is a very valid way of describing someone or their traits. Get over your incredibly chastising PC ways and get a grip. Characteristics of a human can be described and put into racial context without it being derogatory. People like you make it impossible today for anyone to use race as an identifier without screaming 'OMG THATS RACIST, THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!"
So saying that the vast majority of people in the southern states, who have pickup trucks with gun racks, confederate flags all over, love budweiser and nascar are all white is racist?

The world doesn't need more moral warriors. It needs more people with a sense of humor.

Agreed - there's just as many black racists today as there are white ones. Giving someone a pass to say something like this just because they are black is promoting racism, not condoning it.
The word you are looking for is condemn? Let me guess, inner city public schooling?

There's no need to debate with you until you at least look up who she is and the context of what she's saying.

ok bill appealed to black people. barack is considered black, but he is actually mulatto. he talks like a white guy, thus being called white. this makes him the white bill clinton, able to make a speech , and appealing to black people at the same time. "yay, a guy who can inspire me to vote for him. I think I'll vote for him" SO BASICALLY TELL YOUR TEACHER THEY ARE A MORON AND THIS ASSIGNMENT IS BULLSH!T. ALSO STATE THAT YOU WOULD HAVE BULLSH!TED IT ANYWAY, AND THUS ARE DOING THEM A FAVOR BY NOT WRITING 4 F*CKING PARAGRAPHS ON THIS POINTLESS SUBJECT. I guess it helps to practice writing, but it certainly helps if it is inspired.

Please let me re-emphasize my earlier point on a matter of syntax:

Obama might be called the "black Bill Clinton", or the "mulatto Bill Clinton", but he isn't the "white Bill Clinton" because Bill Clinton is already white.

Someone explained that Bill could be "the first black president" because his office is in Harlem. Could this be why?

Thanks in advance

Fvck it, I won't even bother....

..you might analize why american media is hyper race sensitive and would rather rattle on about race rather then true qualifications.

How is this a viable topic for History or any class for that matter? Sounds kinda fishy to me.
