^ Short-term high costs for tech are well known and he (and every thinking person) is well aware of it. Of course, every thinking person also realizes that the long-term benefits out-weigh and usually FAR out-weigh short-term costs, most especially because of economies of scale. Otherwise we would have never invested and mandated catalytic converters in the 70's. But guess what, it happened and we're far better off for it.

Also seems to me that the OP is somewhat disingenuous as his thread title is rather biased, suggestive and leading, yet his first comment speaks to having a neutral view.

The thing is, the bullets *do* do real damage to the image of Obama with these fringe people, it helps keep them in line.

Meh, even the best public speakers rely on a notecard or two. I don't really see this as a problem for Obama.

Obviously many of you who replied didn't read the article, or what my point was trying to show. I never tried to make it about a problem with Obama.

Did anyone see Obama's talk not long ago where he had no teleprompter,... wish I could remember the day,... but he was left clueless at times it seemed.

Bush used notecards,.. he flubbed words that were him just speaking off the cusp obviously,... would he have flubbed those with a teleprompter? Not likely,...

Biden has looked like a complete idiot many times lately due to his talk,...(without a teleprompter)

It is about perceived image and that perceived image makes a difference in whether someone is elected, if they garner support from peers, if they garner support from the public and media,... at least that is my theory and I think it is valid.

again you have no clue do you....
It is NOT about percieved image........it`s about you trolling your own misconstrued percieved image of Obama....so crawl back under your rock plz.

Indeed, and if you ever see someone who doesn't use a teleprompter/paper you can be sure that the person in question has spent a LOT of time rehearsing his/her speech.
I sometimes give talks at conferences and it usually takes me about two days to prepare a 20 minute speech; and that includes a few hours of rehearsing what to say (including memorizing key lines), although of course I am also using Powerpoint which helps quite a bit (since looking at the slides also helps me remember what I am suppose to say).

I think we pretty sure that the people complaing about the teleprompter have little or no experience of public speaking.

Probably because using it for one or two speeches televised nationally is one thing, but using it everywhere and for everything is what is being perceived as a dependence.

I love threads like this, it's like a litmus strip test for posters. Hell I love anything where complete idiots expose themselves as mindless hypocrites. Case in point: most revered demi-god of the GOP Ron Reagan himself refused to do anything without a teleprompter, and guess how many conservatives begrudge him for that?

Again, when exactly did you guys start to care about this issue? Call this Partisan Criticism #278 I suppose. It's a hoot to hear those who didn't have a problem with Bush speaking and acting like a 3 year old for 8 years, suddenly become incensed over something so commonplace, so well used by their own.

You guys don't even have imagination anymore, what use are you?

So say Obama is 100% dependent on the teleprompter. (which seems pretty ridiculous, but for the sake of argument...)

Why does that matter?

Good for him. I'd rather he spend his time more productively than memorizing speeches.

I can barely breathe I have been laughing so hard. "BUT OBAMA USES A TELEPROMTER! WAHHH" hahahaha. At least he is a thinker and not an idiot like bush. Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with people....but then I just laugh as I watch it all fall apart. MUST....STOP....LAUGHING....START....BREATHING....

Kind of like Limbaugh's depending on his writing staff. Standard procedure for comedians, so I'm not holding that against him. Being geeked up and dressed like a Mafioso at CPAC, however, was just idiocy. That's a good thing. Let Limbaugh destroy the Neocons, I'm all for it.

Obama has done many town hall meetings answering questions off the cuff impressively.

Jindal used a teleprompter during his rebuttal to the semi-SOTU and he came off as a disaster.

Proof that it's not the teleprompter behind the man that gets support, but the man himself.

There goes your theory.... right out the window.
