What exactly is there not to like about this project?

here's some, but you'll probably disagree with them.

If approved, KXL will be almost certainly be constructed by temporary labor working with steel made in Canada and India. Much of the Tar Sands oil will be refined in Port Arthur, Texas, where the refinery is half-owned by Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company of Saudi Arabia.
And a good portion of the oil that will gush down the KXL will, according to some studies, probably end up being finally consumed beyond
the territorial United States.

Not to mention higher gas prices in the midwest, the chance of pollution in the cornbelt should there ever be a leak, etc.

Only in the mind of a liberal is 4000 new jobs a bad thing. The public must be made aware that this administration is blocking job creation and in doing so will be raising their taxes.

How many federal jobs will the Republican plan kill?

Nothing but political maneuvering going by both parties, and yet again we are getting the shaft.

We are talking about extending a temp cut that was supposed to stimulate the economy. We have pushed our progressive tax system to the point we are cutting into taxes set aside for retirement social programs. Hastening their demise in the process.

It will get extended but it is getting crazy that democrats want to reduce SS taxes further. I am for low taxes but we have huge obligations to pay for SS. I dont think reducing its revenue stream is wise.

Why would they be union jobs?

The pipeline runs through some non-right to work states. Unless things have changed (the location of the pipeline to be built and right to work vs forced to join union states have changed some as well).

Oil is in a global market. The idea we shouldnt profit from refining or transporting oil because it wont end up in our markets is absurd. What is your solution? Canada build the required infrastructure and profit from the oil being sent abroad? How does that benefit the United States? You probably complain about offshoring. Yet oppose a project that if not built here could be built elsewhere and with it the jobs it takes to build, maintain, and expand it.

Anything that "reduces the revenue stream," or for that matter, increases spending, is a "bad idea" if we are concerned more with the deficit than the short term economy. It doesn't matter if it's payroll taxes or something else. The firewall between SS funds and general funds is a fiction anyway. It all comes from the same purse. We just have to decide if we want stimulus or deficit reduction in 2012, and if we want stimulus, is the payroll tax cut a good way to go about it, or should we try something else? I don't think it's proven that it has been ineffective. Clearly, it is nowhere close to a panacea but no one has ever said it is anyway. It's certainly better than cutting taxes for the wealthy since most of that money will probably be spent, thereby increasing consumer demand. Besides, we're talking about one year, not a permanent cut.

First, that's BS. Second, even if it were true, that has no relevance to the topic at hand. Try to keep up.

You are dumb enough to believe that the oil sands will drop our oil prices?

Oh,I guess I just answered my question.

It may not drop our current prices, but may prevent us from paying even higher prices in the future. After all it's not as if Canada would engage in a political oil boycott against the U.S. like the OPEC countries did in the past.

I think as a nation we should suck up all the oil in the world before we start to use ours and then at that point we nationalize our oil and use it to supply us until we get off of oil. But thats just me.

You'll notice the left and liberals are getting more and more with personal insults and lashing out. This can be seen all across America.

They know they are defeated, they realize that obama may have been "what we've been waiting for" but are shocked this country is flat out rejecting him.

All they've got are insults now, that's why you can rest assured they are defeated.

Spidey I can't way to hear you after your republicans choose some idiot to run for president. Then I can't wait to hear you when he looses, that alone makes me want to vote for Obama.

Hack? Because I choose not to add information that isn't contained in the story I am a hack. Had I done what you are suggesting, I would have been lambasted for posting shit that wasn't referenced, and rightfully so. You are always welcome to back up your posts with links, as I have. Of course, you can go on posting crap from that shitpile you call a brain as you continue to demonstrate you are more than capable.

Yes you are a hack along with this story, and much of the BS that is being spewed in the media and by politicians. This shit never gets anyone anywhere, we need to start dealing with reality and start working towards stuff people can agree on. But this ideological BS is keeping people from seeing reality if it goes against what they think should be real.

Federal jobs don't increase wealth for society since the taxpayer is paying the bill, private jobs create wealth.

Inevitably, some Rightie will spout such nonsense, and seem to believe it, too.

Interstate highway system? Federally created waterways, flood control, irrigation & power generation? managed forests & grasslands? National Parks & Monuments? Roads? Drinking water distribution systems? Sewage systems? Schools? Libraries? Clinics? Hospitals? Space program? GPS?

How dim are you, anyway?

GOP will just have to pass a clean bill, or raise taxes on the middle class in an election year.

Says one who constantly invokes insults.
I understand what you're saying but you're not the right one to point the finger, eh?

Anyway...what I would really like to see.

1. End payroll tax break.
2. Let the Bush era tax cuts expire.
3. Deep cuts across the board.
4. More responsible Gov spending.
5. No more aid to Pakistan and alikes.

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = road to balanced budget?. I'd like to think so.
5 - use that money to fund existing infrastructure upgrades in the US. Put people to work.

Once all of that is done then perhaps look at tax cuts that won't put us back into a deficit.

1 & 2 Democrats want it.
3 & 4 Republicans want it.
5 I don't know who want its but I think it would put people to work and help restart the engine.

Why is that not a win win for all?

Disclaimer - I am not part of the 1% and I don't think I am even a bit close.

The pipeline should have absolutely nothing to do with extending the payroll taxcut. The two issues need to be debated separately, and if you've ready ANYTHING about the environmental impacts of building this pipeline you'd realize it's probably in our best interest to have this be debated separately so that the public can fully hear both sides of the argument.

Trying to attach this to the payroll taxcut at the end of the year when nobody is paying attention is downright foolish. I don't even care what the (D) position is on the pipeline, they are 100% correct that it has no business being attached to the payroll tax extension.

Part of their extortion attempt is to reduce the federal workforce by 10% through attrition- that's ~280,000 jobs-

http://www.businessinsider.com/size-of-the-federal-workforce-under-obama-2011-7

in addition to the job loss at the state & local level due to lack of revenues....

But Repubs aim to create Jerbs! You betcha! What we need is another tax cut for the Jerb Creators! Just wait until that wave of trickledown prosperity reaches you! Wait for it! You'll see!

Fools & Charlatans are apparently natural companions.

It's projected to raise prices in the midwest if built.

The pipeline is being built to export oil through the US, not boost US supplies. It's being built to the sea not to the US refineries.
