My "Silver Plan" rate is jumping from $413/month to $856/month for shitty coverage / No subsidy. - $6K deductible! Thanks Obama!

Don't forget to thank your state legislature as well as states that haven't expanded Medicaid have seen a huge influx of low income people (who tend to be disproportionately sick) into the marketplace insurance pools who would have otherwise been covered by Medicaid. More sick people = higher premiums for you.

Thanks, McCrory!

Also, sounds like you're referring to a family plan and not a single plan, as I looked very quickly at the Raleigh area on healthcare.gov and there were lots of plans with $6k deductibles for WAY less than that.

And where do you think the money for Medicaid comes from? Grown on trees? We pay one way or another.

The ACA does nothing to address the root problems in our healthcare system which makes it so much more expensive than basically the rest of the world combined.

I hope everyone's new premium notices go out before the election. No, that doesn't mean I like dumph but I detest illary.

As I said I pay about $600 a week for a higher level silver plan, but that is because I also have FSA as well. So that's incorporated into it to basically use the FSA to cover most of the deductibles for me. ONLY reason I got it is because I just had a baby girl born. I knew the costs of that shit wasn't something I was wanting to pay out of pocket.
Grats.

We're talking about his premiums. Also, you shouldn't talk about things you don't understand like the ACA. We already covered this.

I'd say having tens of millions of uninsured is a root problem that the ACA addresses in a big way.

Agreed however I have to point out that you are paying whether the State accepts it or not. Basically you are paying for a benefit your Government does not want you to have.

I'm in Robeson County - Lumberton, NC (usually ranked as the poorest county in the state). Single plan coverage - read the article I linked - I didn't make up these #'s.

Esky doesn't care because it's in line with the CBO predictions.

NC people screwed themselves by electing people who blocked Medicaid expansion. Someone has to make up for the lost money.

lol - So you are saying it's ok for discriminatory extortion against higher-wage earners in NC? Just "blame the voters" is your defense instead of accepting the fact that the ACA is an abject failure. What does that ACA acronym stand for???

Again you're paying for it whether its used or not. Your local leaders have decided that they do not want you to have that benefit. I do understand the objection to medicaid expansion but you can't complain that its more expensive since your state opted out.

It's not discriminatory if they voted for it. If someone who could have gotten Medicaid goes to ER and gets service and can't pay, the rest will pay for it through their insurance instead.

It's not discriminatory??? I can't complain??? Too funny! The ACA is failing meteorically anyway. I've pulled my premiums from United Health Care already especially since they've abandoned my state coverage. Would you pay $853/month for the shitty single plan coverage they are offering me??? I don't think so.

Thanks. Week old as of today.

sucks that even with the addition, I still make too much for subsidies. Although it's about a 3rd of my paycheck going to my medical costs at the moment every week after taxes. Factor in the rest of my bills and it doesn't leave a whole heck of a lot.

Not counting FSA, I am at about $400 for medical + dental + vision for my family per week. This is $3000 deductible ppo. Funny thing is I can't really get the healthcare coverage the company I am working for provides since I'm a contractor. Even if I went to the exchange for a plan, they were the same since I don't qualify for a subsidy.

So bshole, look carefully at this post and realize this is the kind of person who is funding your care. An actual, real life person and not an abstraction. One who likely can't save money for his kid's education, move to a safer neighborhood, buy a more suitable car for his family, or save for his own retirement. Because thousands of his money is going to you and those like you. And instead of falling down on your knees in thanks you complain about his "greed."

$400.00 a week for a family, getting medical, dental and vision is pretty god damn good.

And, uh, without the ACA, there would be no subsidies, and the cost would be the same, if not more.

Perhaps people should google what insurance is, and isn't.

This. Under the ACA, I could be out of pocket nearly $30K every year before insurance kicks in.

48 year old single male / zip 28358. My comparable UHC "Silver Plan" proposed by BC/BS for an individual - No dental, ... $5K deductible for $800/month. What is so affordable about that? ...and all you people can say is it's my fault for how my local elections went. Are you fucking retarded??? I guess I should have voted against all of my other conservative ideologies just so I wouldn't get screwed by the ACA, per your train of thought.

And how much would that plan cost without the ACA?

There is almost certainly nothing whatsoever about Obamacare that lowers HumblePie's costs and numerous things that are guaranteed to raise them. Since HumblePie stated he wasn't eligible for subsidies it would cost the same or less, because he (A) wouldn't have been paying the subsidies to cap healthcare premia for the old at 3x that of the young when otherwise the ratio would be far more, (B) could have elected for a low coverage/high deductible plan that's not allowed to exist anymore under Obamacare, (C) could have selected one that didn't cover services he might not use (like pediatric dental care), (D) wouldn't need to pay the subsidy to allow others to cover "pre-existing conditions" when it's an actuarial certainty the policy would have never been sold as it's guaranteed to lose money, and (E) other factors that I could come up with if I cared to spend more time researching.

Again, if you want to rejoice because someone like bshole is getting the money someone like HumblePie would have otherwise had be my guest, but realize that while bshole enjoys a few extra bucks it's because he basically took the lunch money out of his grandkids' pockets.

Why are people surprised that they have to pay a lot for health care in a country where health care is 17% GDP as opposed to 10% of GDP in single payer countries?
If you look at COBRA rates for employer provided private group plans, they are similar in cost.
https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=cobra rates 2016
At least with Obamacare, you can get a subsidy if you can't afford them.
If you want to pay less, then expand Medicare to everyone and let the government negotiate rates like other countries do. Otherwise, suck it up.
