Oblion - ruins seem very difficult

I am playing Oblivion with Obscuro's complete overhaul mod. I find that fights that are parts of quests are fairly easy for most part. But in ruin I keep finding characters that are waaay beyond anything I can handle. Is this normal? Do I need to be higher level to be able to handle ruins? I though the world leveled with the player, but then I try to go into ruins and get my ass kicked pretty hard.

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM. NO ONE BREAKS THE LAW ON MY WATCH.

yeah you need to kill mudcrabs first to level up and then get better weapons. The world does not level with the player when using Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul. All enemies stay the same level.

Your level doesnt mean too much because enemies level up with you in the normal game. Although most of them hit a cap eventually and mud crabs are almost always level 1 if I remember correctly. And yes, ruins are actually supposed to be tough for newb players. Theres good shit in there and they dont wont you getting it right away.

I skimmed through the readme and liked the general idea of what he did. Seeing as that document is as long as a book, there will obviously be things that I missed.

Like the fact that enemies no longer level with you, which was practically the #1 change?

I enjoy playing Oblivion with ZERO mods. It's great just the way it is.

You don't even use any texture replacers?

OP: As mentioned, OOO eliminates much of the original leveling scale (level with player). If you want to be able to beat the game at level 1, then do not use OOO. If you want a challenge, use it. If you want more of a challenge, use FCOM.

Chill out and do something productive besides being a stupid ass.

Nothing. I play all my games in their original form. There are games where I use a different exe if it allows widescreen support, or change registry or config file settings to force it. If there is a different renderer (like the DX10 renderer posted here for Unreal games), I'll use that. As long as it doesn't add, take away, or change anything I'm fine with it.

@ OP, yes the ruins are supposed to kick your ass. Some bosses you can't reasonably tackle until level 30-40. Perhaps best example is Lord Volmyr who sits in an Ayelid ruin. He has reflect damage and spells up the whazoo as well as the ability to summon shadow wraiths and the like. It took me close to an hour to take him down and that's cheesing him with tons of summons of my own not to mention breaking several magical swords from wear and tear.

OOO can be fun but very unforgiving. As a level 1 wandering around, it's possible to get one shotted by a single fireball from a mystical imp.

levelling mods seem silly in this game. games with non-leveling enemies are typically built in such a way that you progress through a series of more difficult areas with higher level mobs. oblivion is so open-ended that having random high level enemies thrown about would just piss me off.

This idea actually intrigues me. The thing I found boring about Oblivion (don't get me wrong - I loved the game!) was that you weren't in danger from enemies often. How often did you actually have to run from an enemy more powerful than you? This might make it less repetitive and more involved for me. I might have to give this a go.

I played it without mods when it came out. Then I played it again last year, with better hardware and lots of mods, and enjoyed it more.

For the most part, that is not how it works. I'm not going to bother to explain it in full as it would be lengthy and likely to fall on deaf ears, but, to make it brief and help the OP out, some sections of Cyrodiil are for new characters. Around the Imperial City and usually along the roads are easier enemies. Some dungeons will also be easier, such as caves (I think Ayleid Ruins are the hardest).

Are there any mods that improve rendering performance and quality (not changing textures or adding any features) and change nothing else? I'd use that mod.

Stutter Remover basically eliminates the chugging from loading new cells and makes the game smoother overall - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208

However, there is an alpha version on the official Bethesda forums that is much better than the one currently hosted at tesnexus, IMO. Thread: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsfor...x.php?showtopic=987905

Alpha version download link: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsfor...ew=findpost&p=14850281

The Unofficial Oblivion Patch optimizes many of the original meshes, but it also fixes the bugs of the game so I guess you wouldn't want that.

If you get crashes then get WEOCPS - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282

What do you mean by quality?

It might, but I never liked the idea of mobs leveling up with you. Takes away the entire point of leveling up, to get stronger. No point in leveling if everything else just gets stronger with you. Especially with a game where leveling is almost entirely pointless AND counter-productive if you do not maximize your skill gains with each level.

It really takes away from the immersion if you can walk into a dungeon at lvl 3 and kick ass, then be walking around with some top-end items for the rest of the game.

Thats just my take though.

worst voice acting in a game, ever. I couldn't stand to play with it on. So I tried playing with the sound off and I just made my own dialog when I spoke to people and my own effects when I could fight somebody. still sux0red.
