Oblivion Graphics Upgrade

I'm running Oblivion on Medium settings with 1024x768 res 2xAA, LOD on, Bloom on,but grass off. I just did a random benchmark with Fraps and here's my stats:
2006-03-23 02:05:36 - Oblivion
Frames: 2246 - Time: 58101ms - Avg: 38.657 - Min: 23 - Max: 78

It seems typical but I do think it dips lower sometimes. My rig right now has a AMD 64 3000+, 1GB PC3200, and a Asus x700 pro. Anyways I've ordered a eVGA 7800 GT oc. and I'm wondering how much better the graphics will be, will my FPS be a lot higher and will I be able to up the textures and have grass and everything high?

Any comment on how the game runs with just Bloom on as opposed to the full HDR?

I thought my system would easily cope with this game with high settings but it seems i might get some trouble with it!

You bought a 7800 with new 7900s here? If you can, cancel the order and take a 7900GT.

BIG difference compared to a X700 Pro. Here is a comparison... http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=96&card2=313# But depending on the GT you purchased, could even score better than the one compared. So I would say, a little more than twice as fast maybe ?

Have you actually tried it yet? I am running on an Opteron 165 DC (at 2.4ghz), 2GB Ram, and an X1900XTX. My current settings are 16x12 8xAF HQ, HDR + all settings set to max, and it runs great. I was actually running the same settings but at 12x9 and decided to try bumping up the resolution, I was surprised to see only a very small performance hit.

Ive got similar specs to you, except my processor is a X2 4200+.

Ideally id like to run it at 1920x1200, thats my only gripe with the 360 version is the 1280x720 resolution (which wont look as good on my monitor).

I bought the X1900XTX mostly for this game... but after reading some comments im torn over the PC or the 360 versions. Obviously id prefer the PC version, but if im going to get big performance issues... id probably sacrifice the high res for overall graphical quality and smoothness.
