Hi; I just picked up this game the other night and all I can say is wow.

More framerates would be nice and keep in mind I have'nt even seen outside yet. I do know that there is a 7800gt agp card but would it be enough for a significant framerate boost when running in 1680x1050 resolution or would it make more sense for a more drastic upgrade? I'm thinking the later but was wondering if anyone knew something that I did'nt. All upgrade suggestions welcome as I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to squeeze out more framerates in this amazing game.

Not yet. No other game needed it and this one seems like the OC would gain minimal framerates. I did download Rivatuner the other night though, I have one of those silent coolers on my card so that should be able to move enough air to keep it cool. What do you think a good OC would be for that card and would it really make a difference in Oblivion?

I'd rahter not spend money on a total upgrade, has anyone had success with an OC'd 6800gt in Oblivion at 1600x1200 ish resolution?

A 7800gt would probably do the trick and save me some money. I'd rather hold off on getting a new mobo for as long as possible.

Now to find one in agp, hopefully they're not too expensive.

personally i wouldn't upgrade computer for just one game. oblivion is amazing i love it but i doubt that the rest of the games coming out this year are going to be as demanding as this one. you could OC your vid card and cpu to squeeze out more frames. at most i would get new video card. you have great machine otherwise and shouldn't need to rebuild for year or so.

I was thinking the same thing after looking at some hardware on newegg. Every other game runs great and my system is'nt old enough to warrant a massive upgrade. Plus upgrades are nicer when you really notice the performance boost rather than just trying to squeeze out a few extra framerates. Just would'nt be worth it at this point. Plus with all the mods that will be released for Oblivion, plus expansion pack this game should be around a long time.

Do you happen to know 6800 ultra timings off the top of your head, it's been awhile so I forget. THat what I'll over clock my GT to.

On second thought, what would the performance difference be between a 6800gt oc'd and a 7800gs agp? DOes anyone know off the top of their head if there is a significant performance increase before I start looking stuff up?

512MB is definitely not enough to run these next gen games. 1GB is normal and most people suggest 2GB.

Did the coolbits trick work for you? I've heard improvements of 15+ FPS, was wondering whether this was an exaggeration or not (I don't have the game yet).

Have you gotten the beta drivers? 512 MB is probably slowing you down the most though.

I have 1GB of RAM and found out that the HDD access LED blinks for a long time whenever I quit the game (medium textures btw). Thus I think that 1GB is not really enough for Oblivion.

For any of today's game you really should upgrade to 1Gb RAM. The reccomended amount for Oblivion is 1GB so it would be wise to get it IMO. RAM isnt that expensive anyway and you'll see performance increase in all your games and in regular computing applications so its a win-win situation for you all around.
