Oblivion: I want mods!

I'm looking to getting back into Oblivion, and I needed help finding mods to upgrade the game.

Any kind of mod will work. Particularly, I want a graphical upgrade which is why I'm downloading Qarl's Texture pack 3. Anything else that just overall makes the game any better, I'm willing to try.

Honestly, I have no idea what mods I'm looking for nor where to look nor which ones are good at all. I don't even know if Qarl's Text pack is good!

Thanks for the help ATOT.

P.S.
I realize there is one of these posts about every 3 months. Sorry! Haha!

Too many to list...

You can check tesnexus.com and look at the top 100 to see which are the more popular ones.

Natural Faces is awesome for faces. There's also a beauty pack for the Natural Faces addon, but I personally didn't like it (to me it looked like everyone was wearing lipstick and eye makeup, even the men).

Also look for Exnem's female body replacer (has an underwear and a no-underwear version). If you use Nighteye, look for a nighteye shader replacement mod (the default shader makes everything blue). If you plan on playing a khajiit or a vampire, also get the nighteye toggle mod for them (toggle it on/off instead of recasting every 30s).

As for content mods, I like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, as well as some practicity mods (Bag of Holding, Quest Award Leveling, and some UI mod).

And make sure you get the unofficial patch, it corrects a shitload of bugs.

Edit: And if you're actually going to get that many mods, also consider the Oblivion Mod Manager program.
You can get all of these at tesnexus

Better yet, can anybody mention mods which don't crash the game every 10 minutes? Stock Oblivion, I ran run for hours. Once I start modding, the game starts crashing frequently, and it gets so damn annoying I quit playing entirely.

I installed Abo's OMOD collection as per the directions, and found it as stable as vanilla Oblivion (just the occasional crash here and there).

That kicks ass. Thanks for posting the link. Maybe someday they'll incorporate the quests into it, although I could see that taking a long time.

Same here. I put in so many freaking mods I forgot what the hell I was doing in the game anyway! Uninstalled it and just put stock oblivion and latest patch.

FCOM and Qarl's. All I use.
EDIT: Oh, and if you use FCOM (which rocks) be SURE to follow EVERY LAST DIRECTION that is on the site for it. Or you will get crashes and other bad things.

And also learn how to use the Oblivion Mod Manager. Certain mods need to load in particular order or they completely eff your game up. I use this guys list as sort of a baseline of what I want installed and expand from there.

Seeing as how this exact same question comes up once a month, I would suggest the OP do a search fir the previous 36 threads to get answers.

On the assumption the search doesnt work anymore, I recommend http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/categories.php.

I've not yet had an issue where some mods screw up others, but I guess I should also recommend the Mod Manager.

- Unofficial Oblivion Patch (a must have, nothing else can be said about it)

- Qarl's Textures Pack III (the "Redimized" version is highly recommended for most hardware out there)

- Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (it's a major mod that you can't ignore, you might end up not liking it, but at least you must try it)

Try those three for a start, don't get too much or else it just gets overwhelming in the end, intimidating by the sheer amount of added quests and re-worked and added features, well at least I'd see it that way, and let's not forget the actual game's stability would be at stake if you add too many mods, requiring other programs like the Oblivion Mod Manager to work properly with proper Archive Invalidation for new textures to be recognized by the game correctly (heck, just QTP3 alone already pretty much requires OBMM for that purpose).

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul as polished in the expansion pack as it is in the OC these days?

What can I use for weapons/armor and cave, interior and exterior retextures? I have almost gotten oblivion to my liking, just a few things I am missing.

Also, anyone heard of Exnem's Bodies? He has a whole slew of mods but I can't find a link to any of them, any that I have found are dead.

Morroblivion will never happen. Bethesda will not allow the importation of anything from game to game and put a stop to the mod. The best utility available for checking mod conflicts is Tes4View. Amazing piece of work and if you are into modding it can do some amazing things. Still need OBMM to change mod order, but the conflict check in Tes4View can give you details that OBMM can't. Gave me a warning about a quest being broken once, and it will list everything in a mod and tell you exactly what they override and what overrides them. Sometimes you find things deleted by a mod that you don't want deleted.

ditto on OBMM, its looks real neat though I just got into oblivion altogether.

Kinda puzzled how nobody mentioned Rens Beauty Pack yet, I think it is much more essential than Natural Faces (didn't care for this one too much). The original hairs are really weak, so are the power move voices that sound um.. disturbing. I am still trying to get the voice mod I got from tesnexus working.

Can anyone tell me more about the unofficial oblivion patch Zenoth mentioned? I gotta try the Qarl's texturepack too. Gonna be fun when I get home tonite

I tried re-installing Obliv with a bunch of nice mods. It was perfect looking, no incompatibilities or anything. But for some reason putting all the effort into getting the mods in cleanly and not playing stock vanilla oblivion completely took the piss out of playing the game for me. I am hoping that feeling subsides so I can finish it.

The UOP was created to fix all the bugs (mostly minor but a few not so minor) that Bethesda never did or never will get around to fixing. Most players view it as pretty essential to use as there are some seriously dumb/bugged things in the game without it. Lots of floating trees and rocks (mapping errors from Bethesda) and tons of spelling/grammer mistakes being two of the most obvious ones. Here's a link:

I wish you luck with getting over that feeling as you're going through right now what stopped me before I started again with the game.

See on my old system I played Oblivion with tons of mods added in. Probably 100+, with many of the bigger mods such as OOO and later FCOM when it became more stable. Had lots of fun for the most part despite the game's serious flaws and even more serious case of consolitis once I had it fixed up to my liking. Even got into using the included editor and started to make some mods to fit my own personal play style as well as trying out various ideas to improve the game for me.

Fast forward to right now when I've got that gaming system that could max out this game (or nearly so) and I just can't bring myself to pull out the disc and go through the mod reinstall process in order to fix up the game into a playable state. It just took so long to get things just how I liked them that I don't see myself ever going thru all of that effort just to enjoy the game again. Maybe in a few years when some intrepid soul has created a massive installer that combines many/most of the good mods out there into one easy step I'll give it another look but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

I added Qarl's Texture Pack 3 and ended up playing some hundred+ hours with a new character just to look around because it was so gorgeous. Don't do it!

With a new video card it's running silky-smooth at 1680x1050, full quality settings, HDR, 2xAA

Speaking of mods for Oblivion...

In as soon as a month, I might be seeking mods for Oblivion With Guns (aka Fallout 3). Especially the Unofficial Patches which will re-enable and balance much of the content cut or nerfed due to a too-early release date. Try as I may, I can't keep the FutureMan(tm) feature of Google locked on.

edit: Maybe clicking the FutureMan(tm) switch prior to filling in the search field. No... After... Still no. Dang. Saddenz.
