Finally, im pretty sure this is a glitch. When it rains, even if you are under a gate or overpass (You know what i mean) or something solid, it still rains. Im sure someone as noticed this already anyways though.

If your game consistently crashes while his doesn't crash at all, then it's a problem with your hardware. I've never heard of any equally-perfectly-working hardware providing a magic "overpass" against software errors. The company making such hardware would stand to make billions in sales based on reputation. I know I'd buy it today just to save troubleshooting time.

Nope. I don't think they will do either. Eventually ATI'll stick the Chuck patch into the main Catalyst release, and it works fine the way it is, so why would they bother?

Patch seems to work fine, but it set all my controls back to defaults :|.

Also, for those having crashing issues etc. This could be due to overclocking or just flakey hardware. I had my X1900XT (BIOS flashed to X1900XTX) running at the topped out overdrive settings and ran every game just fine. However, I had to back down those settings to just above X1900XTX stock speeds when I enabled 4xAA, 16xHQAF, and HDR via the Chuck patch, because I was getting artifacts at the settings absolutely every other game I own runs fine on. My new benchmark for stability is to run Oblivion for a couple of hours because of this .

patch hasn't changed much for me . . . after nearly 550 hours into Oblivion i have only had 2 or 3 minor "issues" with broken Quests that the patch did NOT address [i used the console to fix em].

and my game used to crash - regularaly - until i turned Hardware Doctor OFF . . . DISable any "PC health monitoring SW".

So far this is the cheapest game i ever bought [550 hours for $55]

I got the patch about a week ago, and it still crashes on every single exit, without fail. It has since I bought it a few months ago.

The most annoying thing for me is when I go from indoors to outdoors, or vice-versa, it gets really stuttery and stays that way until I go back in. I thought I read that the patch would fix that but it didn't.

The game is so much fun, it thinks someone exiting it, has to be a mistake.

I don't have a choice on whether or not to exit. I took the Emperors son to the temple last night , and in the middle of his speech , the game just crashed.
I'm reporting every single time it does to microsoft. maybe they will get tired of the reports , and send someone to help. LOL!
But I restarted the game , and got to that point again , and then TALKED to him , and the dang thing crashed again. Restarted , and played for another hour without any problems , and crashed again. Decided it was time for bed for the night.
I don't think that my hardware is the problem. I've got a rock solid machine , and I've never had any problems till this sweet arse game that I can't stop playing , even though I get so mad when this keeps happening to me!!

What a joke. It turns off duplicating glitchs and money dupes, yet allows some of the most annoying quest ending and guild ending bugs to persist. You had to go out of your way to exploit a dupe glitch. If you're the kind of guy that doesn't like that stuff, you don't have to. It's not as though you have to use it. But Oblivion is still packed with glitchs and problems. Oh well. I can't ever complete the Thieves Guild quests, but at least I'll never be able to do cool stuff like this http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8960256445634741451 anymore.

FINALLY, i have found the PERFECT solution for my againg machine's gfx [p4 @ 3.3Ghz/x850xt/1GB PC3500]:

i now run with the "Grass" all the way DOWN . . . *everything else* is MAXED - except self shadows . . . at 10x7 with 4xAA+Bloom [or 11x8 with 2xAA+bloom] . . . looks better and i don't lose anything in the grass again.

The crash at exit is a known problem, however your constant crashing is another issue all together. The game is not unstable during regular play.

I don't think rain going through solid objects is ever going to get fixed. From what I understand they were happy just to have it fall DOWN (instead of up, or sideways), consistently when it came to crunch time.

My system was seemingly "stable" until I played Oblivion. Other games (Half-life 2, etc..) ran fine all day, but Oblivion would crash a lot until I lowered my overclock to 2.3 Ghz. After that, no crashes. Oblivion - the best stability checking program.

btw - The patch didn't seem to adversly effect any of my plugins (MtMod, mainly) so that is good. How do you get the grass all the way down?

setting the grass view distance all the way down should eliminate grass from showing up.

I don't have blocky shadows in Oblivion or BF2 (don't have BF2, though)...but I do notice horribly blocky shadows in HOMM V on my 7600GT when I zoom up on a creature while he's in battle. Zoomed out it's not noticeable, but it does look ugly. I wonder why it's like that.

On a slightly different note...I know you can reduce grass draw distance, but can you reduce the height of the grass? I like the detail the grass adds to the game, but it's too freaking tall. I can barely see over it.

This patch did not include any engine optimizations. What the hell? This engine is so bad, it's pathetic. Jerky and drops framerate to 0-20FPS, on dual X1900XT's. Bethesda just lashes back at it's customers, giving excuses saying "It's a demanding game". They could care less about their game and customers.

the engine is fine if a bit CPU-limited. Perhaps it's your rig.

try disabling Self shadows . . . it will slow the best rigs

it runs great on my x850xt/P4@3.3Ghz/1GP PC3500 . . . *everything Maxed* - except Grass ['down' all the way] and Self-shadows [off] at 11x8, 4xAA+Bloom . . .
