how big is oblivion compared to morrowind? i reinstalled morrowind cause oblivion was released, and i'm having a hard time getting into it. my guy is level 4 or 5 now, and i hate the fact that it takes like 10 minutes to run to a town (nevermind going back).

Morrowind is 10 or 12 square miles. Oblivion is 16. You can quick travel with your map in Oblivion though, not so in Morrowind.

I believe its bigger.

You can fast travel anywhere in oblivion though. If you've been there, its on your map and you can just click on it and you're there. (minus loading and the game incrementing time) No more 4 hours spent doing nothing at all but walking!

Yeah you can. Most outdoor travelling is done on horses.

Yes. I think this is the reason the world feels a bit smaller even though its supposedly larger...you can move through the forest quickly while on horseback.

It sure seems like there's lots of stuff in the forest to find, caves, tombs and bandit hideouts for instance. I even found a half overgrown town inhabited by what I think were a bunch of cannibals yesterday.

I'd like to know where you got those numbers. I wont deny them right now, I'd just like to know.

Having run back and forth on foot it seems to me that Vvardenfell is a HELL of a lot bigger than Cyridel. Not to mention that Morrowind had a butt-load of caves and such in the wilderness. Where as Oblivion has much less and most of them seem to be tied to some sort of quest. It also has less towns.

Though none of this is a bad thing. I actually like the Morrowind style in a more efficient game. It seems like my progress is better and I am more into the main quest.

I read it in the past somewhere. Google "morrowind square miles" and you get 11 for Morrowind and 16 for Oblivion.

I had a hard time getting into Morrowind, but I am having a blast with Oblivion. You won't be disappointed.

Oblivion just feels more refined with tighter gameplay. I wish Bethesda hadn't neutered weapon and armor types, I wish there were more variety.

I've heard that Morrowind was bigger than Oblivion from quite a few sources....

But either way they're both fun (my Morrowind guy is really good *go constand effect healing shield!!!!*) but Elder Scrolls 4 is better IMO.

if you decide to purchase oblivion, i highly recommend you wait until the first patch comes out. I encounter new bugs almost every time I play, some minor, some potentially gamebreaking without endless savegame files.

Keep playing Morrowind while they're [hopefully] working on the patch.

I've seen people complain of bugs, but I've been through the same parts of the game with no problems whatsoever. There are money and item exploits, of course, but no game-destroying bugs in my experience.

Also: Morrowind felt bigger, for me, only because there were so many places on the map with nothing interesting happening. Plus, the huge draw distance in Oblivion constantly reminds you of your current location in regards to everything else.

Both of you guys should consider yourselves lucky. I've had the triggers in quests break on me, and the only thing that saved those quests for me was my 500+ savegames.

the worst bug of all is the "there are enemies nearby" bug, where there's no console command to fix it.

Seems like I did some kind of cheat where I could fast travel in Morrowind. All that walking around, and fighting those flying things was getting under my skin.

I prefer Oblivion.

I prefer Oblivion to Morrowind just for the fast-travel option. I have played morrowind 5-6 times and never finished the main quest due to all the running about.

I dont normally defend Morrowind. I liked it and can understand how some folks didnt.
But for all the complainers did you guys know there were several Teleport Ring mods as well as Spell Teleport mods and a couple teleport station mods?
Not to mention the teleporter and Propylon chamber within the Private Mobile Base.

one of the biggest problems is that morrowind simply throws you into the world without any idea of how to do anything (minus move and interact). i'm not a big fan of having no fvcking clue of what to do.

There's deffinitely bugs in Oblivion. All of my saved games right now are corrupt in some manner. Unfortunately, I deleted a bunch of saved games thinking I had too many, so all I have is ones after the corruption and my level 1 guy. If I reload my level 1 guy and save him inside a dungeon, I can reload just fine. But if I load my latest save and then enter a dungeon and save again, I can't load that new save. I load, but my character can't move and if I hit tab the game crashes. I've sent my saved game to other people and same thing occurs. What this means? I can't save in dungeons at all, only in the outside map / cities. It added to the difficulty but I'm enjoying the challenge.

Oblivion is bigger than Morrowind but you'd never realize it with fast travel. If you don't think it is, start in the upper right and run all the way to the south part and then back to the upper left. You'll be running for a loooooooong time. You'll also find a ton of dungeons. Whoever said morrowind doesn't have many dungeons hasn't done any exploring at all, you can't go 5 feet without a new marker showing up.

The biggest difference is that I actually enjoy Oblivions difficulty in comparison to Morrowind. In Morrowind, I found this robe of health regeneration in like the 3rd dungeon I entered. Completely ruined every encounter afterwards. I ended up starting a new char but got bored of the game because it always came down to single swing kills. I've had some very interesting fights in Oblivion.

Why yes, I even managed it with my armor-less Agent character... where was the bug in that quest? Or do you mean difficulty? In which case simply use the slider to get off the quest.
