Obnoxiously loud corsair PSU

I got a CX500 v.2 Corsair secondhand and the thing is way too loud for my liking. I have an 850 with a 140mm fan in it that runs very quiet, my guess is the thermostatically controlled 120mm fan is not working and is running at full bore.

Is there any way to fix this? replacement fan? And how do you get these PSU's apart, they don't appear to come apart easily. (I guess you will just start by removing the fan screws.)

any advice is appreciated, I am hoping to salvage this purchase.

Is it so loud that it could be faulty, or do you just prefer quiet fans more than the average person? If the PSU is faulty and the seller failed to mention that...

No, not a bearing or a sleeve going bad, it is just spinning full speed, my corsair 850 with a 140mm fan is spinning slower and is much quieter.

Whats the load on the system? Close to the max of the PSU?

Some PSU models are just set to run the fan near full speed always but, thats not really normal. May be defective, hard to say without hearing how loud it is.

The only thing I can say is, I had a Corsair TX 650 V2 that wasnt super loud or anything but was way louder than I wanted. I switch to an Antec Neo Eco 620 and this is like 3-4X quieter than the Corsair.

I have a PSU plug in tester that I used before I even installed it in a system, it was running loud then also. Maybe the quietness of my 850 with the 140mm fan spoiled me, but even other PSU's I have don't make this much noise. I honestly don't think I have ever heard one quite this loud before.

The CX ones that I had tried (before I gave up on them, I tried 6 in total), I would class as quiet but there was an extra noise (not a very loud one though), coming from it that was kind of irritating.

I've gone off Corsair since the VX range went out, the V2s also seem to be noisier than they used to be.

I've been using Antec HCGs since, and my current round of builds will have some Seasonics in that I noticed must have returned to the UK market recently (there only seemed to be high-end ones available soon after the VX was stopped).
