O'C and Random Reboots

I have an Athlon 950 Socket-A on a FIC AZ11-E. I tried O'Cing to 1GHz (10 * 100fsb @ 1.7V core) but I keep on getting reboots everytime I play DVDs under WinXP Prof. As soon as the DVD started playing, WinXP does an abrupt reboot. So then I reset the CPU speed to normal rate (9.5 * 100 fsb @ default core voltage) but the reboots are still occuring. I have 384Mb of PC133 Micron SDRAM. I am also using an ALPHA heatsink/fan on the Athlon with Arctic Silver. MBM reports CPU temp = 32-38 degC.

What could be the problem here? DO I need to bump the core voltage to 1.85V? Should I use CPUIDLE (under WinXP)?

Up the vcore to say...1.80v. If still reboot, up to 1.85v.
Report back ur results.

Hi!

The 1.7V is not the default voltage for an Athlon. Put it at least to 1.75 (this is the default). But as Wind said 1.8 or 1.85 wouldn't hurt.
Also check your +5V and +12V rails with MBM. Maybe there is some instability on some of them. It can be a sign of weak PSU.

You don't need to run any CPUIDLE prog because the Win2K/WinXp has in internal HLT executing thread (the idle process).

Did you installed all the drivers for your MotherBoard? If not then you know what to do first...

After a fresh install of WinXP Pro and putting a Millenium Glaciator II Copper HSF on the Athlon (9.5x105 @ 1.85v Core), the reboots seemed to have stopped. The CPU (accdg. to MBM 5) hovers around 27-28 degC (system idle) and 31-32 degC (DVD playback). I may try a higher O'C later on.
