OC E6400 to 2.8Ghz w/stock cooling & lower core voltage

This seems to be working for me so if anyone has any questions please ask away.

GA-965P-S3(BIOS ver 8.0)
E6400
GSKill PC6400(800) RAM
Stock cooling on Cooler Master Centurion Case
(Added 1 80mm to side of case blowing into case)
Disabled all recommended items in C2D OC ver 1.1 sticky in Tom's Site.
CPU Mult = 7X
CPU FSB= 400
System mem multiplier = 2.0
Memory settings left at default 5-5-5-15
All system voltages left at normal except CPU core
which was lowered from normal of 1.325 to 1.2625

Using INTEL TAT, cpu-z and Orthos to measure & test.
RAN ORTHOS 12 hrs with no errors
CPU idle temp 32 to 34
Load temps with ORTHOS blend 50 - 52
Load temps with TAT full load 58- 59

All stable no errors

Nice result. Temps are really good for stock cooling.

Get yourself a cheap upgraded HSF like the Freezer 7 Pro for $30, and kick your multi up to 8x for 3.2GHz.

I have a similar rig, (Same cpu/mobo, Freezer 7 pro/Corsair Ram). Running Vcore of 1.275V, 3.2GHz (8x400). My idle temps are around 23-24C. Orthos blend load around 42C, and TaT full load ~50C.

Hey thanks for info.

How did you deal with the NB heat. I am going to try using silicone to attach a small fan to the top of the stock NB heatsink. I have read that a few people have tried that with success. They put a dab of silicone at each corner of the fan an push it on to the heat sink and let it cure overnight. They say it holds well and the silicone can handle the heat.

I use a Thermalright HR-05 with an 80mm fan strapped to it.
Next best thing to water

changed the heat pad to some cheap liquid stuff.

Those idle temps are pretty warm, you may want to invest $5 in some better thermal grease, like Arctic silver.

Well it is running overclocked on the stock cooler after all. I think it's pretty good for what he's using.

Ya, but 52 and 54 idle? What are the load temps gonna be like? My temps shoot up almost 20C from idle when i fire up Orthos blend.
