hey i am using a stock cooling

and i have oced my 3.0 ghz wolfdale to 3.6 ghz (hahahahaa)
and u wont believe this when i torture test it the temps remain below 70c for abt half an hour
(jealous?? ) and most of my applications dont stress the proccessor this much so i am kepping this speed but the issue is that the oc doesnt stay there for long i mean if i restart it for abt 2 ~ 3 times it goes back

its same with my amd proccessor and very very low ocs like from 2.0 ghz to 2.1 ghz
with stock cooling

and the thing is at even intial clock speeds also it doesnt make it to the end of 40 mins of torture tests why?? is this because iam using stock cooling ??

No, it's because you're acting like a 6 year old kid.

it resets it at a safety mechanism BECAUSE YOUR OC IS NOT STABLE. you're doing something wrong in your overclocking. you need to run stability tests for 24 hours. but first, u need to read the OC guide in this forum.

i just dont get one thing here i am playing games like assassins creed @ 1680 x 1050 , crysis @ 1280, on this current config for hours and maybe 24 hours and i never got a single artifact then why should i torture test it for 24 hours (just dont tell me that iam only straining my gpu here the fact is my cpu is also being used here cause i even played age of empires 3 and believe me its more a cpu oriented game then gpu)

and comming back to me being 6 years old error 8 ur slightly ri8 iam not 6 years old but iam 16 years old hahaaha iam just messing up my pa's computer he said he wants to buy a core i7 based pc and he give this one to me dont u think i have great knowledge for a sixteen year old and even considering the fact that iam in india (with its computer awarness and literacy rate)and me having a iq of 145 hahaah

I'm still holding to my above post.

Anyway, read to OC guide like Louisssss said and use Linpack for stress test. It takes less to detect any instability problems. If you're so smart, like the IQ suggests, then you should be able to overclock the system without any problems after reading the guide.

Yeah, unless you're running LinPack, it should not reach 70C.

Anyways, it looks like the OP is trying to use DDR2-667 while he's running a 400MHz fsb. Maybe he hasn't raised vDimm enough (or at all)?

Yeah, that's his problem. He needs to give that RAM 1.9v of vDimm, and needs to raise his timings to at least 5-5-5-18, most likely.

Even so, the 667 mhz ram might not overclock at all. I had once some Geil value ddr2 at 667 mhz and they could not do more then ....mmmm......667mhz, no matter the voltage and timings.

That's true, he may very well have RAM that tops out @ 680 or 700 DDR. Thing is, he'll never know whether he does or not, unless he does what's usually required to be able to run slower RAM @ significantly higher speeds.

It's telling when a 16-year-old from India has better English writing skills than most 16 year old Americans.

its obious nerp americans obiously have better exposure to english then we do
and dont give a damn to puntutations and grammar its like i never use back space
(its against my morals to back off and i just cant avoid mistakes)
and besides most indian 16 year old could be better than me cause i studied in a government school
its like a school for u know some sort of relief camps i was like in a village and had no other options

and besides i dont like increasing voltages did i tell u that i achieved this speed with only 1.23 volts core and 1.8 volts vdimm
and comming back to me reading that guide i read it when i was six year old i am just trying to see how far a machine can go with stock cooling and stock voltages

heck i forgot to type some words in my old post like "i dont give a damn" and "its against my morals never to back off"
heck i am happy with these 667 mhz ram i will buy a 1600 mhz ddr3 with my new core i7 pc and besides iam using this ram at 800mhz

I don't know why the torture tests at stock speeds fail. You might need to RMA parts if that's the case.

Other than that, it looks like you need to increase your vcore or your vdimm.

You're starting to drive the car off the highway man. Let's stay on the road, ok? You were saying something about overclocking a cpu, isn't it?

now comming back to my question
is that when u dont use any better fans than stock cooling u simply cant make it through torture test(ortho) ?? and i just cant ask my dealer to replace my parts *angry* indian shops, untill unless its stops giving me display u know (totally broke) and i just cant directly contact intel guys cause they will ask me to give it my dealer

and when somebody insults my language i need to respond to it ok i find it totally normal and not a joke u just can expect a guy to forget a few words here and there and u know use too simple of a language here and there and not use capitals if anything else is wrong with my language please tell me

That makes no sense. Make sure the HSF unit is fully seated. If it's the Intel unit, it's guaranteed to work at stock settings. Also, as someone else mentioned, consider raising the timings on the RAM - it's definitely not designed for 400 MHz FSB. Fortunately, at some point you should be able to pick up a cheap 4 GB DDR2-800 kit.

Also, have you changed the voltage to the CPU? if so, try setting it back to Auto. It should be stable at stock. Reset the whole mobo to stock too. That Gigabyte board should be fine, I think that was a good choice. If everything is at stock and you still have issues, I think it's the RAM. There's even a slim chance that a BIOS upgrade is available that might fix the issue and offer better 45nm support.

Otherwise, I sincerely wish you luck. Hang in there, in 10-12 years you might be over here writing test scripts for a Silicon Valley startup.
