According to Ramos Rios and campaign spokesman Corbin Trent, that unwanted attention led to a press ban both for last Wednesday’s listening tour stop in the Bronx and Sunday’s in Corona.

“We wanted to help create a space where community members felt comfortable and open to express themselves without the distraction of cameras and press. These were the first set of events where the press has been excluded,” Trent said. “This is an outlier and will not be the norm. We’re still adjusting our logistics to fit Alexandria’s national profile.”

..
Asked if it was hypocritical for Ocasio-Cortez to ban the press from an in-district community meeting after weeks of interviews with prominent publications and rallying with candidates in other states, Trent said the campaign is committed to maintaining a positive relationship with area media outlets.

Very Trumpian of her. Now the face of both political parties is against the press. 2018 sucks and ‘19 ain’t looking much better.

You must have missed this part, "This is an outlier and will not be the norm."

This smells like horseshit right wing clickbait.

Was anyone attending the town hall forbidden from reporting what went on in the room? Did they have to sign an NDA? No? Were all journalists banned or just the ones with cameras?

Perhaps AOC felt it would be less of an intimidating environment if the room wasn't filled with cameras and sound equipment? Maybe she needed a break from having a camera in her and her constituents face 24/7.

Seems like there could be some details missing from this story.

The only groups making her the "face" of the Democrats are right side fringe groups that have some sort of twisted obsession with her. Her primary was around 16,000 votes to Crowley's 12,000. That's not a big district.

By comparison, Pelosi has received over 200,000 votes in her district by comparison. Cortez is a pretty faced, political amateur. But keep on concerning.

It's impressive that you can type so much while trembling with all that fear.

A lot of incumbents won't even hold town halls let alone ones for the press to be allowed into.

Unless it forms a pattern not really concerning. Hell there are quite a few congresspeople, in both parties, who basically refuse to talk to the press at all in DC.

And someday you might even try holding your own representatives accountable, instead of being so concerned about ones you were never going to vote for anyway.
You might try doing the same Vicky. If this was a Republican, or Trump, doing this, this thread would be 9 pages long with all you TDS suffering fucktards in here claiming he was about to do everything from opening concentration camps to nuking Seattle. The hypocrisy of you little piss ants isn't lost on anyone who isn't completely ate up with TDS.

Yeah. At least she's showing up. Unlike 2/3 of the GOP skipping theirs.

https://news.vice.com/en_us/article...kipping-february-town-halls-with-constituents

For the first two months of the new Congress, the 292 Republicans have scheduled just 88 in-person town hall events — and 35 of those sessions are for Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, according to a tabulation conducted by Legistorm. In the first two months of the previous Congress in 2015, by contrast, Republicans held 222 in-person town hall events.

Republicans like Sen. John Thune of South Dakota and Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin hosted multiple in-person town halls at the beginning of 2015 but have scheduled none for the first two months of 2017. Thune’s office declined to discuss this on the record and Johnson’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Here's the difference:

While this move is problematic, Ocasio-Cortez ultimately believes in the value of a free press. Trump doesn't. He's the one who declared the free press the "enemy of the people" and would genuinely prefer that the media be reduced to an echo chamber that always agrees with whatever he says. You can make claims of hypocrisy when Ocasio-Cortez starts threatening to revoke TV networks' broadcast licenses... you know, like Trump did.

WTF? Right side fringe groups? DNC Chair Tom Perez himself said that “she represents the future of our Party”.

The only part of that I can find is a conveniently cut clip that ends at that line on Washington Examiner. It was a comment made almost 6 weeks ago and when not taken out of context was a much broader generalization of youth and energy being what they need to energize the voting base better.

It is amazing how much this woman who isn't even a congressman yet is driving conservatives insane. A random congressional candidate from the Bronx excludes the press from a single event and it merits its own thread with multiple conservatives flying into a rage about it?

Jesus Christ people, calm down. Your CDS is driving you crazy. Imagine how bad it's going to be when she actually holds any elected office and has any actual power. You guys are just losing it.

Your hypocrisy is truly epic! ROFLMAO!!!
Please elaborate.

Oh wait, you can't.

BTW, I'm not a fan of AOC, or of anyone in the Bernie camp. What's bothering you guys here is that you want to make it appear like a small group of extremists represents all that is liberal thought in order to distract from the fact that batshit has gone mainstream in the GOP camp, but no one's falling for it (except for yourselves).

Occasionally, at least for candidates who have the courage to directly face voters, go out and actually speak to the people they represent. When the candidate attracts excess media attention and the press swarm in trying to do their job, it can distract from the purpose of the town hall or event. Occasionally, you have to restrict the event to actual constituents so that you can hear their concerns and not get bogged down with press fighting over attention or trying to sneak unrelated questions in having people that don't even live in your state taking up time that should be going to voters.

Is she like "other people"? Is she asking for NDA's or loyalty oaths. Is she restricting this to registered voters of her party? My guess is not.
She wants to talk to voters and not get bogged down with a full press event.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense and exposure to US politics should be able to understand this without resorting to ridiculous nonsense.
