Waiiit I swear this board was arguing that it’s reporters jobs not to be objective but rather they had a duty to do advocacy reporting? Gimme a min I’ll find a thread

This should be interesting. Make sure to provide links and quotes, and you understand the context before claiming it as proof.

That's improper framing of the issues. News organizations have the right to take an editorial position & always have. OTOH, they have an obligation to do so in a fact based manner which is precisely what's wrong with Fox news, for example.

I'm sure he'll understand, this time.

He flips seamlessly from wanting to burn it down to his usual concerns for the soul of the Democratic Party. If Ocasio-Cortez is what he contends that she is then he should just let her burn it down for him.

Wonder if you think the same re Trump banning CNN or whoever he doesn’t want in there. His press conference his rules amirite?

I cannot believe you guys are still trying to argue this. Actual GOP federal officials routinely have events that are closed to the press, they just tend to be meetings with people who are giving them money. I have never once seen a thread from you guys complaining about them.

Here’s the first one that came up when I googled it: https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2018/07/paul_ryan_to_attend_monday_fun.html

The speaker of the house and a sitting Republican congressman recently had an event that the press was barred from where attendees who are very likely not even one of their constituents paid these guys between $2,500 and $10,000 for the privilege of the meeting. Apparently this did not merit a thread but now conservatives are very, very concerned that someone who doesn’t even hold office had a private meeting with people she wishes to represent, for free.

This is such ridiculously bad faith concern trolling I can’t believe you can even do it with a straight face.

Trump is a government official. She is not. Taxpayers are paying for Trump's news conferences and his White House briefings, not hers.

I am not aware of a single politician in the entire rest of US history that has been criticized for holding a single event without the press. Usually they hold several dozen such events in any given year and nobody blinks an eye.

I very much agree we should hold her to the same standard as we do everyone else. It’s unfortunate that she is being held to a different, drastically higher standard because people are unwilling to call out conservatives for making transparently bad faith arguments.
AGAIN! I'm not criticizing her for doing it, I would too in her place and I see and understand the reason for it. My comments were about the leap to defend her and the masses of people who have ZERO knowledge of or about her, assuring people that it is not how she will do things going forward.
Its just like the Trumpsters defending him just because. Of those defending this ( again i'm not criticizing her for doing it) not one has said; But if she does this as a rule then X, Y and Z. Everyone defending her is taking her word just as Trumpsters have and to take his. It's exactly the same thing.
A pass is being created in the event... The trump mentality has to be broken not feed from the other side.

I wasn’t referring to you. If she only held closed events going forward that would certainly be worthy of criticism but even then it wouldn’t make her particularly notable among members of Congress.

This is just the latest example of the right wing freakout about AOC.

I didn't say it did. My original question was if you were going to hold Republicans accountable for their extreme misconduct but you won't answer.
I hold all politicians accountable and typically vote for the lesser of two evils. Does this satisfactorily answer your question?

So, no, you see no reason to hold the GOP accountable for anything, not even looting the treasury on behalf of the ultra wealthy.

I bet 47% of people are okay with AOC's move here.

Haha, if I remember right conservatives were outraged at the violation of privacy there as that was a conversation that was only supposed to be heard by Mitt Romney and people paying Mitt Romney lots of money. What AOC should have done is had all the people coming into her event pay her thousands of dollars for the privilege. Then it would have been totally okay.

It does not. In fact, it doesn't even come close.

It's clear at this point you will never answer my question though so... whatever. I can't say I'm surprised.
