Wall of text with no real point.

Outside of 'your ethier with us or against us'.

I'm not with your violent mob rule.

Heh. Flat earth people were incapable of understanding a round earth, and rejected the idea so strongly that they threatened to execute scholars who brought forth the evidence of a round earth in a heliocentric solar system.

Their blindness was willful, as is your own.

Sportage is right- we're living in the aftermath of the greatest looting spree in the history of finance- enabled, encouraged, & executed by the people & ideas you believe in so fervently.

Also, they're all screaming in front of Wall Street, but none of the real decision makers are actually there. It's getting pretty cold right now, I'm sure the real people in charge are on a beach drinking Mai Tais. As far as I can see, the only thing that OWS is doing is causing headaches for the working stiffs who are just trying to make a living in the city. Oh, and they're pissing off the police, which could cause the governor of NY to soon declare a state of emergency and deploy the Nat'l Guard. That probably wouldn't go very well, they'd have to herd all those people into camps unless they disperse, and then you'd have a worse mess until it gets sorted out.

Oh well, I gues it might make a good TV mini-series some day. :hmm:

a local restaurant had to lay off a good # of workers because of decreased business.

Until laws are established that completely eliminate donation-based campaign financing and monetary lobbying of every sort, going after the money and those who have it is f'n pointless.

It's the LAWS that need to be changed. It needs to become criminal for ANY politician to accept ANY sort of monetary or material gift from ANYONE.

That is why screaming at the wealthy is f'n pointless -- it does nothing to address those who are actually corrupt (politicians), or the mechanisms (laws) that allow them to be corrupted.

So...
1. SEVERE Campaign finance reform (eliminate PACs, all candidates are given equal campaign funds, etc)

2. Limit ALL lobbying to face-to-face meetings and written submissions wherein NO monetary or material gifts are authorized -- none, nothing, nada... no exceptions!

3. SEVERE punishments (extended federal imprisonment) for anyone -- politician OR "lobbyist" -- who violates any of the above.

The solution to our mess is really that simple. Nail those three points, and you'll essentially cut Wall Street and other SIGs out of the equation.

Answer me this: how does yelling at wealthy people accomplish any of the above?

OWS can be effective, they just need to lock in on a clear message and refocus their outrage towards actual people, not faceless entities who really don't care who is pissed off at them. You can't vote out a corporate CEO or hedge fund manager, but you can apply pressure to a Senator or Congressman.
This.

The original Boston tea party didn't involve sitting down and writing a stern letter to congressmen.

Just an fyi

I see no point in knocking the OWS protesters for doing their occupations and sit ins and marches

Its what we do when we protest.

Feel free to waste your time protesting, this movement will change nothing as they're not going after those in power.

/now you know the rest of the story

So says you, the Indonesian millionaire. lol!

What you dont recognize is that the movement already succeeded.

Good luck wrapping your brain around that.

So you are another one that doesn't agree with the Constitution.

The constitution is a living document, to be changed with the times to best suit our society. We have long passed the point where individual rights should be the primary focus of our primary governing document, IMO.

Why don't they go inside now then?

I don't know why don't you ask them?

Stupid question = stupid answer

Tea party representatives got voted into Congress a couple of years back. Why don't the tea partiers just go away now?

Most of them did once they realized that their tea party candidates were just Republicans taking advantage of them.

I don't think they have quite yet...

Really? Where in the Constitution does it say you can assemble even if it breaks the law? There are reasonable limits, as has been outlined by the USSC. You might want to check that out sometime.

The problem is the law simply is not applied the higher up you go and the public isn't demanding it be applied equitably. Bush deregulated everything and looked the other way with a wink and nod every chance he got. Even Obama's worst attacks thus far have amounted to "warning" CEOs he would start throwing them in jail if they committed medicaid fraud for the Nth time. At worst these bastards will get a slap on the wrist and keep right on going.

What needs to change is the public acceptance of this double standard. Otherwise its just more of the same "white man speak with forked tongue". That's where Occupy has it right. They're emphasizing just how egregious the double standard has become and that it simply should not be tolerated any more.

By attempting to absolve the wealthy of their responsibility in the situation you are only looking at half the problem. It's naive.

So, he's wanting to "absolve" the wealthy, but you guys are ignoring politicians all-together. That's just brilliant. :whiste:

The "war on wealth" will go just as well as our "war on drugs". Which is to say, it will be a complete and utter failure.

I don't know who you think 'you guys' are, but I most certainly don't ignore politicians. Might want to go lean something before calling other people 'brilliant' there, big guy.

There is no 'war on wealth', and if you actually believe such a thing is true I feel sorry for you.

I'm still not seeing anyone marching in DC, just in the financial and business centers. No one seems to be taking anyone in the Beltway to task on this, also haven't heard comments from you about Obama and him shoveling $Billions to Big Pharma. Is that simply an oversight on your part, or is it intentional?

You might want to check with your buds on the street, you know the ones calling themselves the "99%". Just who do you think the "1%" are? They're the wealthy. Have you read the signs, or are you ignoring those too?
