How to win friends and influence people

I think today's stunt is really going to hurt support for their little communist uprising. Do OWS supporters still believe this is a peaceful movement who is NOT bent on obstructing commerce/business?

Looks like OWS is gaining more support.

Selfish asshole OWS protestors. Too self-absorbed to realize the fat cats they despise day trading in their apartments somewhere uptown while all they are disrupting are day-to-day common workers.

Seriously, these people are a product of a society that gives trophies out to last place losers as not to hurt their feelings because they suck.

Is it safe for me to assume that you agree that Obama did indeed have the bulk of the responsibility for administering TARP and that the conversation has now moved on to effectiveness?

If this is the case, let's contast their effectiveness.

Adminisration of these loans starts with who they actually chose to loan money to and evaluation of the default risk involved. Bush's loans were paid back with interest...what about Obama's loans ($150B committed and only $13B paid back)? Hmmm...not so good.

TARP was primarily intended to prevent collapse of our banking and financial system. Most of Bush's loans were used this way ($194B)...Obama, not much ($11B).

Please tell me why a good admistrator would refuse to accept TARP loan repayments (with interest) from several banks. Hmmm...that's odd.

Also, why would an effective administrator refuse to implement or only partially implement 20 of SIGTARP’s recommendations for basic transparency and accountability in the operations of TARP that we now know was fraught with moral hazard potential? Hmmmm.

For the record, many (e.g. OWS types) falsely believe that TARP was a Wall Street handout given by those evil Republicans to their rich cronies and that taxpayers got ripped off by these greedy banks...oblivious to the fact that TARP legislation was pushed by Democrats. Oblivious that those loans to "Wall Street" made by Bush have already been paid back with interest. The loans Obama chose to make....well now, that's a different story.

No I wouldn't say that at all. Bush dispensed more of the money, therefore if I had to choose I would say he administered more of the program. (not that I really care who administered it more) I would also not measure the effectiveness of TARP based on how much money was paid back either, because making money wasn't the purpose of TARP. I don't have nearly enough information to tell you what the purpose of all those loans were, and so I wouldn't possibly try to make a judgment on what was more 'effective administration' (whatever that would even mean)

Yes, lots of people believe TARP was some evil plot to hand out money to Wall Street when in reality it was a practical response to an extraordinarily bad situation. Now I do fault Obama for not regulating the financial industry in a way that would prevent this from happening again in the future, and I credit Bush for doing the right thing, even though it was unpopular. Frankly, I think that Bush's good handling of the situation has contributed to its unpopularity because his bipartisan work on it made it possible for both parties to hate it simultaneously.

More frustration towards OWS by 99%ers.

One commuter to the financial district expressed her frustration today over delays on her commute every day this week. Her normal commute should last about seven minutes but now takes 25 minutes.
“This has been every day for this past week, 25 minutes to get from Canal to Wall. It’s shameful — we are all 99 percent, this is ridiculous,” the unidentified woman told

Interest demographics.

Meantime, a recent survey of OWS members by Hector R. Cordero-Guzman, Ph.D, of the School of Public Affairs at New York's Baruch College, sheds new light on who they are: Young (64.2 percent are under 34), well educated, white (81.3 percent) and male (67 percent). Only half are employed full-time. Over 70 percent say they are independents politically, 27 percent are Democrats, 2.5 percent are Republicans.

What I find odd is that people seem to think you could have a protest without inconveniencing the remaining 99% of society. Of course they are inconveniencing other people, including some they claim to be supporting. How could they not?

What you're failing to understand is the protesters and their organizers have the GOAL of inconveniencing workers. You know...all day, all week, shut down wall street!

Stop playing dumb, their objective is to disrupt, not protest, but disrupt.

BS.

UPDATE: State of Seized Library
http://peopleslibrary.wordpress.com/2011/11/16/update-state-of-seized-library-items/
PEOPLE"S LIBRARY
November 17, 2011

(This post is being updated as news comes in, check back regularly.)

We’re getting our first report back from the folks who went to the Sanitation Garage. Mayor Bloomberg’s office tweeted: “Property from #Zuccotti, incl #OWS library, safely stored @ 57th St Sanit Garage; can be picked up Weds” But it turns out, not surprisingly, that this was a lie. Our folks on the ground say:

“There are only about 25 boxes of books; many of the books are destroyed. Laptops here but destroyed. Can’t find tent or shelves.”

Update 11:00am

“Many books destroyed. Most equipment -and structures missing. . . most of library is missing (ALL of the reference section btw), damaged or destroyed. “

Update 11:14am

One of our librarians Zach came up with a partial list of what was taken (see below) and it’s looking like only a few boxes of books and our (destroyed) laptops and one chair were at Sanitation. Our people on the ground report that “A lot is destroyed . . . more may (or may not) be coming out of their giant trashpile at back of building.” But it’s obvious to me that by recklessly throwing the contents of the park into dumpsters, the NYPD and DSNY working under Bloomberg’s orders destroyed what we built. And that their claim that the library was “safely stored” was a lie.

So Mayor Bloomberg: where is the People’s Library?
Between 2,000 and 4,000 books (we’ll know if it looks right when we see it ), this includes five boxes of “Reference” materials many of which were autographed by the authors;
Our custom made “OWS library stamps;”
5 (4?) laptop computers;
Our wifi device;
miscellaneous paper supplies;
A round portable table;
a rectangular portable table;
6 metal shelves (five of which had been set up in two pieces);
three sets of wooden drawers;
a periodicals spinning rack;
Approximately 60 plastic tubs/bins of varying sizes (most small, but several big);
archival materials (I was starting to collect some stuff in the library);
posters (including many original posters created by OWS participants);
two lamps;
four solar lights;
7 (or so) chairs;
a wooden dinner table (that was our’s right?);
periodicals/newspapers/zines (not counted in our book total);
our awesome tent;
signage;
personal belongings of librarians;

Spidey, I have spent some time looking around, and I have a link that I would like you to follow. Please consider what it has to say.

All you got is insults. So you are saying their goal isn't to disrupt wall street business? I want to make sure I hear your denial of reality, are you really saying their goal for today's festivities isn't to disrupt wall street and business?

What I find odd is fucking over your fellow man and then expecting them to support your cause.

everybody knows the ows squatters are nothing more then a seiu/whitehouse arm of street agitators inspired by the obama's agitator background. In the obam's demented thinking he somehow thinks he's strengthening his postilion with street agitator threats and disruptions.

That works pretty well to excuse anything.

"Police beat two hundred protesters who were not resisting."

maybe the people should've taken their shit home when they were told to

"Police handcuffed and executed 50 protesters.

maybe the people should've taken their shit home when they were told to

"Police raped 40 children protesters had brought with them to the protest after arresting their parent"

maybe the people should've taken their children home when they were told to

Ya, it works for pretty much anything for an apologist. Nice going.

Sounds like a highly effective protest to me!

How do you block someone from going to work or getting on a subway without using physical force or intimidation? You don't, you have to use violence, either physical or implied to stop their freedom of movement.
