Not true at BAF. I tried going to the gym there during my 5 day stint waiting for a flight, and as I walked in an Army SGT told me, "Sorry sir, no weapons in the gym." I was like, "Uh, what am I supposed to do with them?" "You can secure them in your quarters." "I'm in guest quarters with strangers from 5 different countries, that's crazy. I tell you what, how about I leave them up here with you." "Uhh... sure sir, that makes sense I guess."

Which doesn't come close to the idiocy at the military side of Kabul International Airport. The gym there not only doesn't allow you to bring in weapons, but you can't wear the same shoes in the gym as you wore when you walked in. How fucking reasonable is it to expect people to have two pairs of athletic shoes when 98% of the people there are fucking travelers?! That's what happens when you let the god damn Europeans run the place, along with Eastern Bloc gate guards covering you with their weapons while you clear yours at the clearing barrels coming in. Yet they still manage to sustain casualties from suicide attackers and small arms fire at KIA. WTF. :thumbsdown:

As the security forces NCO explained as he escorted us back to the hospital, their aerial surveillance saw us on thermal sneaking around and they thought we were bad guys infiltrating the camp.

Bagram is a cesspool of the worst side of the military. It's the reason I support cuts to the DoD. Unfortunately I know that those of us who actually did something would be the first to go, to save the do-nothings that joined for college money and to get pregnant. That's where they all wind up.

I stopped through there right before the big attack in 2010... I think most of the injuries were caused by idiots running off the road and stepping on landmines.

Because of the 4 day notice that I got for my deployment, I wasn't able to deploy with flame resistant ACUs (FRACUs.) When I had a minute to breath at Camp Phoenix (the largest coalition camp in Kabul) I went to the supply depot to try to get some. They didn't have any in my size, but they had a couple boxes of pregnancy ACUs that I could see. I went through the rest of my deployment living by the advice "try not to catch on fire."

Later, several thousand union members and college students joined late day marches in Union, and then Foley squares.

By the time marchers crossed the bridge into Brooklyn as night fell, there were nearly 300 protesters arrested - including a symbolic 99 busted on a bridge ramp hours after the protesters failed to delay the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Looting sprees have consequences, obviously. Rome wasn't rebuilt in a day after the Vandals cleared out- in fact, it was never quite the same afterwards. Back then, they did it up front & personal, with swords. Today, they can loot an entire country from their offices, using computers. Technology- ain't it grand?

Most people don't like beat downs. It's inevitable it will be back though as things get worse. Nothing was fixed. Banks are still all insolvent just hiding it with fake accounting. Banks still aren't lending. Derivatives about to blow up which will tank marke. Companies still aren't planting roots in USA and hiring. All the basic structural problems that spawned these movements are still with us and getting worse.
