So what? Senators and representatives are rarely in the news. I consider myself pretty well informed, and I can't name either of my senators or the representative for my district. If they asked about how they felt about significant policy initiatives in Washington (changes in rules for mortgage refinancing, tax code changes, the budget deal, etc.) you might have gotten a good idea of how informed the person was, but I guess the reporter would rather ask gotcha questions.

Not really. No.

If one doesn't even know their senators or rep they forfeit the right to have an opinion about politics IMHO. Willful ignorance is NOT to be tolerated when speaking about the future direction of our Nation (which the protesters are full of).

Not really. No.

If you're pretty well informed you'd know the name of your State (or commonwealth) Senator and House Rep. along with your Federal House member and your 2 Senators. If you don't know these then you're not "pretty well informed"

Its a combination of communism mixed with anarchy which is interesting as communism is inherently authoritarian.

Educate yourself, Left Libertarianism is not authoritarianism, Bakunin was Karl Marx's rival. Not only are you ignorant of basic political ideology but you are a talk radio revisionist history moron, and a very uneducated one at that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism
Adherents of libertarian socialism assert that a society based on freedom and equality can be achieved through abolishing authoritarian institutions that control certain means of production and subordinate the majority to an owning class or political and economic elite.[9] Libertarian socialism also constitutes a tendency of thought that promotes the identification, criticism, and practical dismantling of illegitimate authority in all aspects of life.

Accordingly, libertarian socialists believe that "the exercise of power in any institutionalized form—whether economic, political, religious, or sexual—brutalizes both the wielder of power and the one over whom it is exercised".[10] Libertarian socialists generally place their hopes in decentralized means of direct democracy such as libertarian municipalism, citizens' assemblies, trade unions, and workers' councils.

You are welcome for the basic politics 101 class. Dismissed.

For those who wish to learn more about (the real) classic Libertarianism (not Ayn Rand/Friedman nonsense) Noam Chomsky's Government of the Future is a great resource to learn about what is possible if we can shake off this old 18th century corrupt system and grow instead of regress into crony capitalism.

I suggest righties open their minds, pull the stick from their ass and listen to a actual educated person instead of some dropout junkie grifters on the radio. You may enrich your knowledge of the world outside of a superficial entertainment view the right offers.

It's great that you think that, and that by extension, you feel that I'm uninformed. It doesn't bother me at all.

I've got to say, from the tremendous knee-jerk derision and demonization some of you are dumping on these protestors, it seems like you must be scared shitless that these kids, in all their disorganized glory, may actually -- finally -- pose a well-deserved threat to the elite few that have systematically looted America over the last 30 years. You can play apologist to the status quo all you want, but they have valid concerns and unlike you, they've actually gotten off their over-indulged, middle-class asses and stood up to try to change things. I don't know if it's a flash in the pan or a movement with real legs, but at least they've shifted the debate away from all the usual phony wedge issues like gays and guns.

Huh?
Communism and socialism are inherently authoritarian by definition.

Can achieve the goals of communism or socialism without an authoritarian government.

Sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "Lalalalala I can't hear youuu!" is admirable.

GG.
It's true I can't hear the voices in your head, and I'm thankful for that. Unlike you, I prefer fact to faith, information to emotion, reason to fear. I've asked many times for objective, credible evidence to support your paranoid rants. You've consistently failed to deliver. I've asked for you to put up or shut up. You've done neither.

I suppose one of our differences is I have far more faith in America than you do. You seem to live in this black and white world where the only two options are "live with the pervasive corruption and pillaging of America" or "let the ebil Commies take over." I think America is stronger and smarter than that. I think we can find a middle ground, where we work on the things that are wrong with America while preserving -- or sadly in many cases restoring -- those things that make America great. While I think OWS is still a long-shot, it's the best chance I've seen in a generation to maybe wake up enough Americans to actually make a difference.

Let me guess, some junkie dude on the radio told you this while acting outraged? Herp derp! You guys gotta be the more gullible (and clueless) fanbois in the galaxy.

Someone should market some Foxnews lightsabers, because this is what you are, a bunch of douchey trekkies/star wars fans arguing about a fictional political narration made up by the entertainment industry.

You guys are a joke, the more garbage you repeat from talk radio in your insular world the more you look like idiots to even semi-educated peoples. Great work!

What is funny is your righties in here bashing fellow Americans and repeating corporate propaganda machine are unraveling everything the right has put together with talk radio and mass media. You are my hero if you are a lefty troll. (sad thing is I do not think you are, you are just that ate up lol)

Huh? (again)

How else do you get communism or socialism without an authoritarian government?

Oh ya, we are really scared that they are protesting against voluntary loans they took on but realize it sucks to pay bills.

Like I said earlier - This generation wants to go from A to Z without putting in any of the hard work.

Left Libertarianism has been around far longer than Karl Marx, Ayn Rand or the Communist Manifesto. (which was condemned as authoritarian by the left from the start!) Try reading or watching links I provided about these basic concepts in politics?

On a interesting history note the "father" of Social Libertarianism -Bakunin used to get into fistfights with Karl Marx over his "authoritarian dictatorship philosophy and co-opting of the revolution"

Your knowledge of the history of the left is amazingly superficial comrade.

By being both anti-authoritarian and anti-corporate monopoly, Left Libertarians present a clean break from right-wing coalition of neo-cons, the Religious Right, and Big Business. In opposing the war, in promoting local control , in fighting state-sanctioned corporate privilege, and in fighting to protect our civil liberties, the Libertarian Left has far more in common with the Left than with the Right as it is presently identified.

What this does not mean is that I prefer Hillary to Congressman Ron Paul. It does not mean outright partisanship in which liberals are my friends and conservatives my enemies. I still feel a sense of common cause with many on the Right, especially strict Constitutionalists. But historically the Right has been the party of the Establishment, of landed privilege. The Left has been opposed. Libertarianism ultimately belongs on the Left.

A little late to the party . As I told you some months back . I talked wife into taking some of her 401 K and redeeming it . It worked well for us . Now she is going to take it all . You want to hurt the banks . Get your 401 k money while there is some left. Buy Gold /Silver. These people that are protesting I wonder how many have 401ks with over $10,000 I bet not many.

Apples to oranges, Tea Party was a establishment sponsored corporate rally of a few uninformed retirees.

OWS is Democracy (for all it's flaws) in action. The youth and average worker of this country has been drowned out by establishment media/corporate culture.

The tea party and conservatism represent the aging past of the cold war populated by older paranoid folks, OWS is the future of America, like it or not.

Conservatives have NEVER been on the right side of history, so their answer? Rewrite history by throwing shit against the wall daily to paranoid wingnuts.

The establishment media and their fanbois are the real problem, wall st fleecing us is a symptom. Democracy is the medicine. Welcome to 2011 conservatives, keep up, or be left behind. (you guys like living in the past though so no biggie, carry on with your bullshit, I am sure there is some distraction piece out there about evil Pelosi/Obama raping children you can lap up instead of using your brain.)
