New York City Police Foundation — New York

Beginning in 2010, JPMorgan Chase donated technology, time and resources valued at $4.6 million to the New York City Police Foundation, including 1,000 new patrol car laptops. The gift was the largest in the history of the foundation and will enable the New York City Police Department to strengthen security in the Big Apple.

New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly sent CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon a note expressing "profound gratitude" for the company's donation.

"These officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe," Dimon said. "We're incredibly proud to help them build this program and let them know how much we value their hard work."

Oddly enough, you're right to a point. OTOH, there is a point of diminished returns wrt that. A guy who makes millions per month is no more or less secure paying 15% federal taxes or 30%, because he's spending basically the same amount for security in either case, just as he's spending much the same wrt all other household expenses.

At some point or another, more money makes no difference in lifestyle.

You did not say WalMart. You were talking in generalities and the thread was leading to companies whose value was artificially inflated due to shady deals and speculation, namely the financial institutions.

You don't think the physical infrastructure, stock, etc. grew hundreds of times over again in real value? Same with Microsoft, but their expansive properties are virtual\digital.

Sometimes a value is all in perception. Apple is a good example. It does have definite worth, but worth based on opinion is not solid worth. There are others that do the same, and I am not Apple Bashing, but that is the way our system works these days...

Not to say that speculation does lead to some companies being valued way over their real value, but you're barking up the wrong tree on these two.

Um, the WalMart issue has other things concerned with it. I think conversations are getting crossed here. WalMart is basically playing Big Boy in most areas and driving out the locals in the name of "better prices". Most of that is a farce as it is easy to operate at cost in an area when you have other solid holdings. they are playing corporate warfare and really do not give one flying fig about the people, neighborhoods and their own workers beyond paying them the minimum they can to keep a functioning unit.
